A sweet lady gave me these a while ago because she didn't have any sunny spots left. She called it a dark eye Stella. I also remember she kept reminding me NOT to say thankyou...because it was a gardener's pleasure to share plus it was bad luck for the plant to survive!

It's so interesting to see all the diversity of daylily blooms; there's one (or a hundred) to fit everyone's different tastes! Smiling

Distant Star, Shady Lady, Small World Snow Owl, Isle of Patmos, Sand Pebbles...all just gorgeous!

Avedon, we had the same unusually cool weather last night, and low temps today with low humidity. Almost unheard of for this time of year, and the daylilies don't seem to like it!

Emquinn, I've had the same issue...it was such a warm winter that my daylilies seemed to explode out of the ground in February and March. Then, it was cooler than usual for much of April and May. The scapes that had shot up seemed to be stunted and many are now blooming low in the foliage; I've had a couple that are only inches from the ground (and have never had this issue before).

Hoping everyone's warm weather coming up will encourage better growth and better opening blooms Crossing Fingers!

Betty, you may be correct. I looks like the one pictured in the data base. It's not one that I would have purchased, but it's a keeper for sure.

This is 'Cinnamon Faces' doing a Fleur-de-lis act. It opened very little beyond this yesterday which gave the seedlings the benefit of looking a lot better in comparison. I'm going to cull this one. The quality of the blooms have been deficient in my growing conditions. It's got lots of interesting and good qualities as a plant and, even potentially, as a bloom. This is the third year and I think there are too many I'd find more satisfactory than it's been.

It's first few blooms looked like this and I waited until this third set opened to call for help - the flowers are darker in color than last year's and have sort of burnt or dried looking petal edges that are rolled over. The plant is in a pot, gets water every day (maybe not enough?) and we had a huge rain storm 10 days ago but have not had any rain since then.

It's got at least 10 bloom stalks coming along, loaded with buds but the flowers are blooming very short. I thought cold weather caused that but, well we haven't exactly been cold although we have had a nice cool-ish spring. No night has gone below 60 here in a month.

Any ideas for a remedy greatly appreciated.

Elaine - That's odd. I have mine in early morning shade, then afternoon sun for about 5-6 hours and then shade again.

Here's mine this morning:

And then late this afternoon (it tends to turn a peachy color when it fades out):

No brown edges that I can see should it have been caused by sun or heat. Could it be a fertilizer issue? How are your other daylilies doing?

My newest cultivar to bloom for the first time ever for me ....

Lovely Pink Lady - Below the specs with 17 1/2" scape. Actually there are 3 scapes growing at different rates, 7" bloom, 3 branches, 14 buds, no rust. This is my first large cascading spider/UF and it was quite a pleasant surprise to see. The blooms looked huge to me. I am sure if the petals were laid out flat, it would measure at least 10".

Needless to say, I used it's pollen on most of my blooming dip cultivars and seedlings, including the tiny Little Rosy Cloud and the beautiful Wild One. Big Grin
