I've been really busy removing amaryllis and oak roots so I can plant a Justica shrub. I surely can make a good mess! While all that was happening the daylilies were starting to hit their strides!

I was fairly surprised (maybe shocked) to see Memory of Morning look this way. So I emailed Michele who sold it to me. She was fairly sure it was correct. I looked at her pictures in the database too. To me it looks more like Stenciled Infusion, but there are some differences. Stenciled Fusion is 6" shorter and will be blooming in a couple of weeks. I actually love this bloom, but it looks nothing at all like the bloom that Luddy Lambertson submitted to the AHS. But it is SO pretty!

P.S. I just love taking portraits, as my husband calls them.

Regina, I love your pics of Isolde. Mine started blooming yesterday.

Arlene, your June Williams Memorial brought back a memory of Marjorie Kinnebrew. She was so proud the day she showed that one to me at their place.

"Ruby Red" is the name we have given this one. It's a Carpenter cast-off and it is a wonderful flower here, the color holds up very well.

Hazel Ballard--this DL took three years to bloom--last year--so this is the start of Year Four. The jury is definitely out, not sure I will be keeping it.

It's always interesting to see your blooms. You're in east Texas and I'm in north central Texas, but your 'Wild And Wonderful' and 'Wild Horses' have already bloomed for you. Mine have scapes, but it will be another week or two yet before they bloom. I guess it mainly a difference in winter temperatures, but there is a larger gap than I'd have expected.

Hmmm, @Donald and @Aveon, Texas is sure a big state! I'm in NW Texas, and while all my DLs are new this year, I wouldn't expect scapes until the end of May anyway! I'm completely, insanely jealous of seeing all these May blooms...even in the same state! Drooling

Yep! Amarillo is a good ways north of me. The old joke about Amarillo is the one where the soldier from Amarillo was assigned to Alaska in the winter. When he got off the plane and looked around, he said "Man, don't you know it's cold in Amarillo!" I can relate to that one. I had car trouble just barely east of Amarillo while coming back from Colorado - in January - and managed to get lightly frost bitten on the side of the road. There was a dry snow blowing like sand. Nothing at all to protect you from that wind. I don't know what the chill factor was, but surely a lot colder than the actual temperature. Your spring warm up is generally several weeks later than mine and mine is several weeks later than east and south of me. I'll be really interested to see what you grow successfully there. Except for things that require more cold than I generally get, the others would probably be good choices here if they manage the wind and dry heat in summer.

Edited to put Colorado where it belonged geographically :).

Last Sept when we drove to Colorado, we went through Amarillo. Stopped at a tourist center to use the restroom and my husband had to grab me before I hit the ground. The wind was brutal!!!!!!! He had to grab both of my shoulders to keep me from blowing over. Not a problem you understand, I'm 5'2" and he is 6'3". Just over 100 lb. isn't a good weight to withstand wind successfully.

So right, Donald and Arlene! Cold and windy are the operative words around here! But I am used to it after living in NE New Mexico for some 25 years...not much different here! We don't call it windy, though, until it's over 30mph, and that's most days~ You'd need to gain some weight, Arlene, or learn how to "lene" (giggle)!!

I'm already falling behind on posting pictures now... These were taken over the past four or five days, and I'll start with the little ones.

LILLIAN'S BABY FOR A DAY - Sooooo cute, Fred!

Unfortunately my LILLIAN'S RAINBOW AT DAWN hasn't scaped yet -- but maybe that's good, since we'll be on vacation for two weeks in June and perhaps I'll get a surprise when we return!

LITTLE MUCHA MINTO - James should find this interesting, as we've occasionally thought that there might be two different versions of LITTLE MUCHA MINTO. The first picture is from the plant he gave me a fan of, which I'm growing in a pot, and the blooms do show the pattern -- although there are times when there is hardly any pattern there at all. And then the next day my original plant bloomed, the one I have planted in the ground -- and it looks exactly as it always has. Are these the same cultivar -- is there perhaps a mutation involved? It's a bit of a mystery...

And now on to the big guys. Fred, I must say you've absolutely outdone yourself with this one -- huge blooms on a tall, sturdy scape (I only have one so far) -- and a beautiful pattern to boot!

DRAGONFLY DAWN

PAM TILLIS - Love love love this one!

LOMA PRIETA - Another instant favorite, and blooms can look quite different! I included a closer look at the second bloom because when I put it out in the sunlight I saw some silvery blue-gray metallic on the outer edges of the pattern.

AZURE PRISM - Another absolute favorite!

JEWEL OF TAVARES - A little splotchy, but I love it!

COOL BANANAS - This bloom is huge -- over 10" when I stretched it out! And it's a TET ROSE F. KENNEDY seedling!

LINDA TOUCHSTONE

BIG ROSE PLATTER - Love the pinks!

BUTTERSCOTCH BEAUTY - An exquisite dip!

TAVARES LEMON LIME - I didn't even realize the second bloom was a poly until I noticed the four sepals!

Gain weight? Gain weight you say????? I've tried hard to lose that last 15 lb. Difficult when the body is 66 years old!

I got the giggles as we fought to get into the building. We must have been a sight!

Barbalee, it was well over 30 mph. Well, well over 30 mph. I grew up in Denver. On one of the days with strong winds we saw rafters on a new house go down like dominoes. Also, I was a mountain climber--lots of wind up there in those passes between mountains. Lots of wind down here on the beach this year too. Can't avoid it.

You're gonna love it, Regina! Thumbs up

And unfortunately this year my garden is not blooming that much yet at all, due to our cooler weather and almost weekly rainfall so far this spring -- Bakersfield is usually hot and dry in May, and today it's supposed to reach 97 so it's coming back. But I'm pretty fearful that everything will bloom during the two weeks we're on vacation in June -- bummer!

Hope to have more pics later today, but posting this one for now. It is one of my favorite blooms, with great colors. It's only downfall is its short stature, but I have it right along the sidewalk edge so that it's easy to see. It also throws several polys per season.
