Had a pretty good frost last night into this morning. Pretty much finished off the stems I had left. So I cut everything down. Still looking at a few light setups on amazon getting ready to start some seed in a couple months.

Until then, everyone keep the pictures coming to help us all get by.

I really dislike this time of season here.

I expect I will have more open by the end of the week, so will post photos as soon as a I can. The last bloom on 'Mapira' opened today, so now all four buds are open (even the deformed one, where all the anthers are messed up).

Ursula, I tried to count the buds but got lost somewhere around 26.

A few warm days have brought out a few seedlings. First are some Napa Valley seedlings from HankZ (seed from NALS exchange). A couple of these flowered for the first time last year and I've now planted them out to see how they mature:

Next, this first-time flowering Tiny Padye seedling tormented me for days before finally...

Very nice seedlings, Della.

It looks like Penghana and Napa Valley might be closely related?
No info in the Lily Register for either, unless those names are not the real names....

Napa Valley was offered by B&D Lilies in s Valley Series that came from Maks in the USA. The series had b/c flower orientation and at least here, are strong performers.

Yes, lovely seedlings, Della. I particularly like the one in the second image, top row. I find the contrasting edge very appealing Smiling

Rick, ‘Penghana’ is hybridized by Neil Jordan. I remember following one of Della's links and seeing it there: http://camlilies.com.au/.
Easy to miss, but it's also in the second supplement to the lily register, so you will find more info there. It was registered in 2007.
KAVB has Napa Valley registered 31-12-2013.

Oh you're right, William. I forgot that I have to search each pdf individually, rather than the whole folder that contains them all. D'Oh!

One can't exactly call the lily register user friendly. However I wasn't very methodical at all, I just stumbled upon the entry in the lily register when I was googling Penghana. Sometimes laziness really works Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Thanks everyone. Smiling

William, I'm grateful you did the background checking - even if it was 'laziness' that yielded the results - it would have taken me a long time before I ever produced the right links like that! (As in... maybe never! Hilarious! )*

I'm thinking now I might try some of that second seedling's pollen on Penghana. I thought I did it last year but was surprised to find I hadn't! Mind you, the pollen looks a little clumpy, but maybe that was the weather more than anything. I'll wait for a fresh bloom. If it works I'll share some of the seed around.

*edit: As in - I meant the registration details and forgot I posted the Cam Lilies site! Duh!

Della,
Always nice to see what comes up from the seed donated to the NALS seed exchange. Thanks for posting the pix. (These were Napa Valley x ??? - I did quite a few crosses with Napa Valley and various brushmark or bi-color seedlings.)

Three pix of Napa Valley.

A few have opened here over the past few days:

'Tresor'

'Sunset Matrix' (dwarf As)

'Golden Matrix' (dwarf As)

Both 'Sunset Matrix' and 'Golden Matrix' are in the same pot (2 Sunset, 1 Golden). All three bulbs double-nosed, but only one stem on 'Golden Matrix' produced a bloom. There is still one stem of 'Sunset Matrix' left to open.

Those potting lilies have a very endearing old-fashioned look about them, Joshua. Where did they come from?

Hi Hank! It was Napa Valley x 11-187, the pink/white/gold + brushmark pollen parent.

I'll use pollen of this seedling:

Thanks, Della. They are from Garden Liliums (aka Club Creek Bulb Farm).

Della, a pic attached of 11-187 for your records. Penghana looks a lot like Napa Valley. You should get some nice bicolors from the cross.

Della, on that seedling you intend to father Penghana with: I didn't pay much attention to the three pistils, until I noticed some extra pistil ribbing on one of Hank's 11-187 flowers. With 11-187 being in its ancestry, perhaps this is a variable genetic trait, rather than a one time anomaly? So I am wondering what the other open flowers on that stem will bring.

Hank, any insights on this? BTW, that 11-187 is incredible!
