Rick,
Looks like the pistil ribbing thing has been going on right from the start of the 11-187 crosses. 09-154 has a ribbed pistil.

Thumb of 2016-11-20/hankz/e596bb

I have no pix from earlier than 1998 crosses. 97-10 was a seedling from two semi-double lilies (one an LA lily), so there is a good chance that one or both have genes that could produce this trait.

What a fabulous pedigree! I never would have picked that great-granddad (and now great-great grandad) was an LA. Great way to present it too - I would love to do that for some of my lilies some day.

I'll see if the next flower has anything odd going on, stigma-wise, and keep an eye on future generations too. Knowing the pedigree gives me plenty of thoughts of where to go (and not go!) when picking partners - I hope I can recapture some of that amazing patterning. Thanks. Smiling Thumbs up

Did you do the inverse crosses on any of those, Hank?

That would be most interesting....

Thumbs up Joshua.

Here's the Tiny Padhye seedling again:

She has a new sister now too :D :

Rick, I looked through my cross spreadsheets and found no inverse crosses. I did find that the cross that produced seedling 09-154-1 gave me 15 seeds from a total of 5 pods. Sdlg 09-154-1 was almost exclusively used as a pollen parent, and it gave me a good number of seeds to work with.

Della, I like the sister seedling, the one with the spots, of Napa better than the first. I like the wider overlapping petals.

I'll try and get some new pix posted in the next few weeks now that things have slowed a bit here.

Another seedling from 09-154-1 pollen.

Another beauty!

Hank, the early difficulty of getting seeds was due to the LA ancestry, I assume? I agree the new seedling is of much better form. I'd like the colours of the first one in the form of the second. Have to fiddle around with that and make it happen. nodding

Della, I'm certain that the LA lily in the background did not help the fertility issue.

Another Napa Valley x 11-187 seedling from my garden this past summer. It lost the brushmark but copied the colors of 11-187.

I like how a lot of these don't have green filaments and styles, it's a pet peeve of mine (that probably isn't shared by many...it takes all kinds :P) when the petals are bright pinks/reds/oranges or dark purple/black....meanwhile not a problem (for me) on white.

The asiatics seem very close to blooming for me (shh, I planted very late) buds are changing colour and seem close to full size. Orientals are perhaps a month away (the buds are at about the same size and spreading out from the steam as the asiatics were early Nov).

I've also had some sprouting of seeds I got from Della, hopefully I can get them to survive (first time with lilium from seed, so far so good).

If the buds are changing colour, then you should start to see blooms within a week, @Protoavis. Many of my Asiatics have yet to flower (although they're getting there, with another cultivar yesterday starting to get colour in its buds). The Orientals are a while away.

Congrats on the germination of your seeds Smiling

'Pearl Jessica' opened yesterday. I'm holding off adding this to the database for the moment - probably until at least next year when I hope to confirm the ID - as the plant is small and there's known confusion between 'Pearl Jessica' and a number of similar lilies (and at least one seller in Australia that has one mislabelled).

In the process of opening in the morning:
Thumb of 2016-11-26/Australis/d4d5b1

Fully open later the same day:

Update: Am now pretty certain that this is not 'Pearl Jessica'.

'Dreamland' opened this morning. Neither of the larger bulbs I had bought have buds, but this baby one (as part of an Asiatic baby bulbs pack from the same supplier) did!

'Navarra' has been blooming recently as well (had to wait for another bloom to open, as I managed to get pollen all over the first):

The first 'Whiskey' starting to open this morning:

One of Paul's Aurelian hybrids is getting close to blooming:

Finally, a couple of non-lily photos - Californian Poppy 'Jelly Beans' that I planted for my wife:

The blooming lilies are a welcome sight. That is one big old bud. Can't wait to see how that opens up for you. Healthy plants you've got there!

Thanks, Tracey. I am looking forward to seeing Paul's hybrids bloom, espeically since I don't know exactly what's what! Each one will be a surprise.

Possibly the most exciting are the those lovely lily surprises. It does look like it is getting close. Can't wait to see what's in there.

Some photos of 'Whiskey', now fully open:

The shortness and compactness is likely due to it being its first flowering season; next year I hope it will have improved significantly. Not sure how I feel about the colour. I generally like yellows and oranges and quite like 'Sunset Matrix' and 'Tresor'. But this particular shade? Hmm.

'Tiger Babies' is a mess (first season) as well, with short and wonky stems everywhere. I really hope it improves next year. I did, however, get some nice photos of it in the morning sun today. First photo is an opening bloom (after being freed from its organza bag, pollinated and stigma covered):

'Tiger Babies' has such an unique color, it multiplies like crazy here too. It's one of my favorites; a consistent performer with a nice long bloom time.
Lovely!
