I call dibs on giving away lambs ear! I pulled out a lot of mine because it's high maintenance. I left some because bees love the flowers.

I don't know but suspect Donner has more lamb's ear than anyone else here! Isn't there a huge patch by the driveway?
Plant it and they will come.

Why is it high maintenance? I thought it was rather low water use?

As it grows, the older leaves die and rot, and I have to pull them out by the handful to keep it looking tidy. I have to do this several times a year..and they also have to be cut back in the fall.

I have just a smallish one. That happens at times. Right now it looks great. It's rooted under the edge of the rosemary, total full sun, and overhangs the sidewalk. You'd think with all the rain, mine would get rot, but so far it's very happy this year.
Jeff, you've got that gravel area out front- sounds like a good place to try this.
Plant it and they will come.

I don't know, I'm not the biggest fan of lambs ear. Too soft and friendly. My preferences are sharp and spiny Sticking tongue out

You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. I have Opuntia polyacantha var. erinacea but no one wants to go around touching things like that. We have lots of prickly things so hopefully I will be able to teach her which plants to respect quickly before I have a crying daughter on my hands.

"Be careful, that plant BITES" worked pretty well around here. Lambs ear is needed with a little one around, though. Lovey dubby

Sighing! I dug most of mine up by the time DGD started walking...I just couldn't stand the thought of her tipping over on to a spine or tip.

I put my one indoor cactus up on a plant stand. I agree, falling on top of one would be awful.

Sad yes but I don't think I can rip out our 30 plant hedge of pyracantha. I like the whole 'that plant bites' saying though.

Kids can be taught to stay away from potential harmful things, and also can be injured by "harmless" things, including toys.

My youngest learned to pick raspberries and blackberries without being scratched when she was two, but cut her forehead pretty badly by falling on a rose bush that had been pruned back for winter at about the same age.

You just do what you can to keep them safe!

Thanks Jan Smiling

This is a photo set I took last week or so. I love it because all the photos were snapped in about a minute and she had a bunch of different faces. So cute! She just started to suck her thumb too. Prior to a few days ago she really had a tough time and sucked her hand and random fingers.

You're right, that's quite a range of expressions on her face...every one of them adorable!

I see you've got a gardener in training; she's watching what you're doing and will be wanting to help before you know it.
