Hurray! YEAH!!! Cynthia got NHN semps. We can't wait for you to tell us which ones you got. I am having so much fun seeing what each of you are getting. It's like Christmas. Or a great big multiple BIRTHDAY party. Big Grin
Here is good advice from twit.

twitcher said:Jread, if keeping your plants indoors, just do not water them unless you see leaves on the outside of the rosette drying up, then only a sip. They can go a long time without water. No water and they won't try to grow too much and get leggy. Also, you are in zone 5, so they should be OK outdoors - just cover with snow. I wouldn't put them out now, however, due to the sudden temp change that would result, but you could stage them to an unheated garage for a week, then put them out.

Okay, now we are all waiting to see which ones you got Cynthia so we can drool over your list. Lovey dubby

Just to add that newly arrived semps should not be watered. They may have damage, hidden or otherwise, from the rough handling that occurs in shipping. Damaged areas are prone to initiate rot, so plant them, but do not water for a week or so. If indoors, do not water unless they are getting very, very bright light or you see signs of leaves drying up.

I have a semp I brought indoors in October that is sitting a couple of inches from 4' fluorescent lights (wasn't sure about its hardiness). It has never been watered since bringing in and is doing fine, but a bit etoliated.

I have a small hypertufa pot of semps that I was going to re-do. I stuck it in the garage in probably June and totally forgot about it. Found it the other day. It received no water and basically no light. They're still alive! Very etoliated, but alive! Amazing plants. Thumbs up

I to had some large strawberry pots in the garage since Sept. I was going to redo them and life got in the way. I just moved them outdoors last week. They really are amazing plants.

My North Hills box arrived today. I have it sitting out on the porch for now. I must get some soil mixed up so I can pot them. I'm thinking of putting some of them in my living wreath and just setting it outside. It hasn't done well in the house this winter. Wonder if the wreath would be too wet for it during the winter. I know some have mentioned keeping their wreaths outside all year long.

Holly here is what twit had to say about newly arrived semps.

Do you have snow right now? Maybe you can pot them up and cover with snow. I wouldn't water them though, as twit says below. Or you could just pot them and keep them in the garage for now.

Do you have anything to add to this twit?

I have a sheltered porch and an unheated garage either should be a good spot for them for awhile. I'll let them in the box for a few days as I didn't get potting soil for them. I should have gotten some as soon as I ordered them. I have plenty of potting soil, sand, perlite and pro-mix. But the sand is buried under a ton of snow it would be wet and unclean.

I got about half of them potted up. They are very nice and she sent me a lot of extras as well. I set them all back out on the porch for tonight and will do another tray of them tomorrow.
