I hear you there Rita, I've lost track of so many names over the years but love them just as much.

Many of them once did have name tags buried near the base of the plant. Who knows where those even went. And you could hardly see them even in the winter and not at all in the summer.

But many never did get and ID and I did remember most for many, many years. But now it has been a really long time and I just forget names.

Really I have those rose beds for the beauty and so it doesn't matter.

Mark, I think I prefer the first picture of your Dick Clark. I wonder, would it change as much, or at all, if cut early for the vase??

They have lasted longer than I thought they would, though--longer than Mrs. Dudley Cross, who is indeed a very delicate beauty, very shell-like.

You grew her from a cutting?? Impressive!! Hurray! Hurray!

She's the only one that survived the mildew that took out dozens of others. I tried it over the winter under lights with a plastic cover for humidity.

Here's a disappointing first bloom. When I bought Naughty Nude, it was described as a creamy pink, but I hoped it would also have some russet tan in the bloom. Instead, it has produced this sickly greenish-yellow flower. More like Creepy Cadaver than Naughty Nude.

On a happier note, Edith's Darling has produced its first cluster. The little blooms have a button eye.

Hilarious! Creepy Cadaver! Zuzu, you have to be careful posting names like that - next thing you know, somebody will use it! But seriously, it is very frustrating! You don't think it is another rose? I see that Ludwigs has one called 'Forever Busy' http://www.ludwigsroses.co.za/... (looks a bit like your creepy cadaver)

By the way, had a good chuckle reading the description of Naughty Nude - can't imagine what it smells like 'naughty fragrance' Rolling on the floor laughing

I know. I had a good laugh at the "naughty fragrance" too. I'm hoping it's just one of those deceptive first blooms. Actually, Forever Busy wouldn't be a bad rose to own, but it's much prettier than the one I have.

Edith's Darling has opened here too this week, very sweet and those centers are so cute! We're getting so much rain there aren't many perfect blooms. Thankfully I don't mind imperfect blooms. Smiling

Beautiful pictures, everyone! !
I did get some photos today, but through a car window only. Tomorrow I will walk and take better photos. I'm in Hamburg Germany, and many people here grow huge roses in pots on balconies! They are so colorful.
Hope I see more tomorrow!

I have buds, but very few blooms. Mainly my minis next to the house are giving me blooms, which is normal. Spring has been a long time coming for me here this year.

Some non-roses .. mainly irises. I've lost the names of most of my irises, so I have no idea who they are any longer. Oh well.

Ooh, Dantes Inferno would look so pretty with Ring of Fire! Lovely blooms! I'm liking the plum color that Munstead Wood turns as it ages too, but I find it hard to capture in a photo.

Toni, both roses and non-roses Smiling are lovely! Totally agree with Neal on his combo suggestion.

Neal: just love Berolina! The classic HT shape is my favourite! Maybe that's why I only have a two Austins: Tea Clipper and William Shakespeare. Both have been transplanted twice since I acquired them and haven't really impressed me but this year it looks like they might put on a show. Especially William - covered in buds!

I love it when bearded iris season and rose season arrive together, which isn't always the case here. Often the irises are finished by the time the roses start. Having so little cane die back this year brought earlier blooms on the roses, and I'm seeing an extended first flush because now the new canes arising from the crown are budding heavily.

Japanese beetles are a problem here during summer, usually they emerge in late June or July. For a few years I saw a dramatic reduction in them after using milky spore (an fungal pathogen that attacks JB larvae), but last year they were back in hordes. Last fall and this spring I've applied more milky spore and have my fingers crossed.

Neal, what does Japanese beetle damage look like? Some of the roses in France have lots of holes in the leaves (and in some of the blooms) Grumbling , but this isn't a problem we have in England.

Mika, here's a photo of Sally Holmes from last year. Often you can't see any of the bloom at all, just a writhing orgy of grossness!
