I believe that for the majority of seedlings, it takes time to not only build a clump but also a higher bud count. At least that seems to be my experience. The early and continuous heat this year seems to have knocked some of mine backwards. Short scapes, low bud count, and very little increase.

Nice one, Larry. I have found lower bud count on my mature daylilies, too, I believe because of the drought this year.

Best to plant in the ground when the weather is a little cooler. That is my experience and opinion.

I have a surprise seedling blooming today! It's from 2015 and was transplanted from the curb in front of my neighbor's house to a pot this Spring. I was shocked when it sent up a scape!



Now to figure out the cross. I know the pollen parent is Holly Hill Reward. Just need to figure out the pod parent. It was from one of last pods I collected in 2014. I left it in a jacket pocket by mistake for months. When I found the little shriveled seeds I threw them in a pot thinking they would never grow. But 5 out of 9 sprouted. This is the first to bloom and it is a late like the parents.

Sometimes those surprise seedlings are the BEST!!!!
