I hear you on the metal labels! I used to be a big fan of the zinc labels, either plain or colored, but I swear I can't keep them in place anymore. I like the idea of using colored miniblind slats. In theory, I put a white vinyl slat label into the ground when I plant something, so that when I move or divide it, I'll be able to find the name even if the above-ground label has gone missing. In practice, I've only gotten a portion of my new plants and bulbs labeled the past few years... *Blush*

I am terrible with labeling plants, always thinking "I will recognize it when it blooms.". The problem with that method is sometimes I didn't even wait for plants to bloom before weeding them out. Have done that more than once *Blush* .

Not sure---but potting it up to a bigger pot will help it overwinter.

Donner's secret to growing brugs from last year's ccuttings to a full size Brug in bloom
IS to keep potting it up to a bigger pot all spring and summer.
Can't argue with the results....

My Dr. Seuss will bloom soon--just a few buds hanging right now.
I am not sure how i will take it inside....can't lift the big pot it is in now...never did the pot-in-pot...
So--I guess i will have to dig it up and pot it in a 3 gal. pot for the winter.

Both my Mayas are doing well. One of these is also in the mega-pot I usually plant them in.
Both will need to be dug out of these mega-pots and re-potted.
Hope I can do it.... Gita

@gitagal - you've gotta find a local teenager that wouldn't mind making a quick buck. I'm sure they could get them in the house for you!

Chantelle--
OHH! All those big, long buds will pop any day now! or--have they already?

The way I see it--it does not help to keep the Brugs in a huge pot over the winter--
as the roots will fill any size pot you give it. And then what???
That is where the pot-in-pot worked so well. In digging it out, the roots hat grew out the holes
in the inside pot got a good root-pruning. Very invigorating for this plant in the spring.

When I put the inside pot (the one with the holes cut in the sides) in a bigger pot
in the spring--it just grows like no one's business, as there are ample roots to grow from.

You can tolerate this endless growing and getting larger for maybe 3 years
(from a rooted cutting) before it is too big to do anything with.
Like that picture I always post--where the Dr. Seuss is in bloom
sprawled out about7' wide. Then you will have to make a decision what to do next?

We can talk more then. Bedtime....Gita

Chantell, if the Maya is still in a small pot, you may want to keep it there so that it can stay inside for the winter without taking up too much room. Move it to a large pot next spring.

The buds on your Dr S may very well open before you go. Good luck!

@Donnerville - good point...given how many jasmine pots will need to come in this year (I've got to quit finding them at various local nurseries, seriously) - that's probably a good idea. It was dark tonight when I got home but I think one or two are just about ready to open. Right now it's datura paradise out there - beautiful scent in the evenings!!! And the Butterfly ginger is opening... I'll try to get pics before heading to work in the am. Gorgeous pics btw!! Is that 2nd one Maya?

Chantell, yes, the second picture is the Maya. The flowers are off white in color when they first open. Then they turn into this lovely peachy pink. Yours may still bloom this year. Crossing Fingers!

Here is what they look like when they first open:

If I asked already please accept my apologies… How would you compare the fragrance of the two blooms?
