You have a lot of diversity JoAnne. I love mixing color and textures. At BHG webite they have container recipes! I love getting new ideas and there you can see how the planter looks before you are out the money! lol

This is an early photo of the begonia in my clients 2 planters. The red flower in pots is an impatien.
The begonia in the first pix is on the left side near the caladium. They were so full and beautiful by August.

I don't think there's any such thing as wrong colors of plants and flowers Jo Ann! I love 'em all, in any combination. Mother Nature makes them mix 'n match.

Beautiful planters, I just love seeing other peoples combinations. Gives me some great ideas of using plants that I hadn't thought of using in containers before and looking at different color combos. Just loved that Bonfire Begonia this year. We ordered several of them and they were just so great. I saved some seeds so we will see next spring if I can get them to grow.

I wonder how long it takes them to grow from seed?

That is one of the fun parts of winter, like Jo Ann said, all that dreaming and planning of the new creations to be made.

I buy plants or take cuttings of plants that can be propagated that way.
I dont have a light situation for starting seeeds and the only wintersowing I do is for annual poppies.

Many of my annuals come from "plugs". They are very tiny plants that have already been started from seeds. Many just have their first true leaves. I do also start a few things from seeds, cuttings and some plants are picked up at the local nurseries.

Much the same here. I propagate coleus from cuttings, and grow just a few seeds under lights each year. My lighted shelves are small. Most of my seeds, by far, are wintersown.

I buy a few plants, too.

I start a lot from seed, propagate from cuttings (mostly coleus) and end up buying some as well. I love to use winter-sowing as much as possible for my seed starting as I need my grow lights for tender annuals, mainly herbs and veggies.

I belong to a container gardening site on facebook with mulemomma and 200+ others and one of them found the picture and posted it, so it free to post. I am getting great ideas for my yard as I'm going to be doing everything in containers or at least 99 % in containers.
Here are some samples of what I'm starting with that they gave me ideas for.
Thumb of 2012-11-26/marti/96daca Old toy trucks for planting semps in or out here I'll find something that is seasonal as I think the poor things would freeze in the winter as they are shallow planters.

Thumb of 2012-11-26/marti/35d0ae Havn't decided whether I will cut the seat out and plant in it or just set a pot on the seat and make it look like its coming out of the plant. Any ideas?
