I would go with the best specs. I would also skip extended warranty. They are a marketing scam. If you use your laptop the way it was made to be used then you shouldn't have any problems. Every now and then you see a bad lemon, but how often does that happen? Most of everything come with a one year manufacturer warranty. If the product is a lemon then it should give you problems right away before your warranty is expired.
When I first moved here from NYC, I had to buy everything new. I bought extended warranty on my furnitures, which cost an extra $200 that I never have to use. Same with my appliances. I build and repair computers and laptops as a hobby and I can assure you that the internal components last a very long time. Most of the time you will have to upgrade before they even go bad.
