Looks great! There's a couple of yellow purslanes in the pots for DD. I think it might be too late for it to "spill" over the pot, but we'll see. They just look like yellow dots now.

Summer is slipping away. Already I'm thinking of the winter ahead. Still things blooming here. There have been daylilies in bloom since May due to continual rebloom - a nice surprise. Here are some things I found interesting to photograph today.

Pentas. Not really my sort of plant, but I usually end up with some because the hummingbirds and butterflies really like it. This bunch was at death's door on the clearance table at Wal-Mart and I overcrowded the container so it has to be watered every day. They recovered from a pitiful state and the hummingbirds have appreciated the effort Smiling

Glottidium vesicarium aka 'Bladderpod'. Hard to get a good photo, but in real life it's making an attractive planting. This is an annual plant poisonous to cattle that grows in the pasture and I wanted to identify with certainty, so I collected some beans and grew it last year. I enjoyed it, so I collected the seeds and then nearly didn't get them planted. They are barely going to have time to have some mature seeds. These only grew to about 42", but the few that are down in the pasture are 8-9' tall. An alternate source for beans if these don't have time.

Antigonon leptopus aka 'Coral Vine' is another I grew from seed. The original plant got killed in the first freeze. I'd planted seeds that were up, but they were protected on the porch. They refused to grow at all until we got hot this summer, so I didn't expect any bloom. There's going to be some fall bloom if the grasshoppers don't eat them off. Another one the hummingbirds appreciate. I just have to get them inside before the first freeze and hope next year I have more mature root stock (and, hopefully, a grander something to climb on).

Some white Portulaca that reseeded in the container. I expect I'll bring this in this winter and hope it reseeds again. I think it's the whitest white bloom I've ever seen.

Trycyrtis aka 'Toad Lily' from one of those sad Wal-Mart packages I grabbed a couple of years ago. This the first bloom this year. There was going to be quite a few blooms, but this week something started eating the plant, so one main branch is gone and quite a few buds Angry . I don't know what's doing it. Squirrels maybe, or rats coming out at night. If there's more damage tomorrow, I think I'm going to simply move the container somewhere else and see if that helps. I consider this a fall blooming plant, so every time I look at the blooms I'm going to wondering where I'm going to put the things that have to be protected. This one, fortunately, doesn't require that.

Great pics! I grew Pentas last summer for the first time. I understand about getting them on the clearance table because they seem to me to be more expensive than most of the other plants. Especially since they're usually labelled as an annual. I've since learned that they can be perennial in my area, but I didn't know they last year before I trashed them at the end of summer!😓

Great plants and pix. Just got back from your county and was really surprised to see how green it is all the way up in September Smiling
Walked into my backyard to see many plants fried. No one turned the sprinklers back on after the rain
Not to pass the blame but I was out of town Whistling

Thanks. It does look green here right now. Since my 'lawn' is pasture grass and I didn't get to it quickly enough, it looks like it's ready for some hay to be baled. It's weird though. We are a yellow spot showing on the national drought map. We are still under moderate drought conditions, but every county that touches the county line is out of it. There was a lot of rainfall that circled around us. We could use some, but it bypassed us again today.

Sorry about the fried plants. 'Bout the only plants that deserve to be fried are potatoes and okra. Some plants just require a lot of water anytime. At least a lot of the container plants I'm currently fooling with do. Had to keep an eye on the little fig tree, too. I hope, if it lives through the winter, that it will adjust some. I think it's probably always going to need some assistance.

I hit 3 o 4 little downfalls today but never saw water standing on any of the highways. Funny about the okra, I brought home a bushel and the kids were waiting and they all took a bunch and left us maybe two meals. I got them cut and battered and in the freezer
and it will get fried!!! nodding

Is the weather changing? Something is up with all my plants? No Toad Lily blooms for us here. But usually we get them in late October/November. But I see no signs of flowers thus far? I wonder with the trees uplifted, if them getting more sun has anything to do with it?

We have ONE lycoris! It's odd becuase it is the only one of hundreds I have and I didn't plant it there?? Maybe the big Angel's Trumpets have shaded the others too much? Sometimes I feel my plants are just soooooo picky!

The Pentas had both a butterfly and a hummingbird all over it. I actually had the camera sitting in the garage handy to grab. The hummer wasn't having any part of that, but it at least gave the butterfly a break from being attacked every few seconds. Man! Those hummers are really territorial. Sometimes they don't even want to share their space with me. Good thing I'm a lot bigger Smiling 20-30 snaps and I thought this was the best result.

I didn't think my bud looked like this, so I didn't think it had reached the point of blooming. Guess I was wrong. I found a shriveling bloom on mine yesterday, so I missed it. I didn't even look until later in the day. I have one more chance. The timing of the bloom isn't ever going to be a good fit for me Smiling . Does it ever set fruit for anyone?

I looked back at photos and found on June 1st, the blooms began opening at 9:15 PM. The second time it bloomed, on August 19th, it began opening at 10:50 PM. I don't think they always bloom in the middle of the night. Maybe placement according to the sun or moon, or just happenstance determines the timing of blooms. I'll have to find the photos from last year to,see what time they bloomed. I think it may have been closer to midnight, but I could be wrong...

Don't want to seem like I'm bragging, but I'm very excited to report that my E. Oxypetalum has three more buds! I just noticed them yesterday. These are just starting, so I don't know when they will open. We're going out of town next weekend and I really hope I don't miss them. Our daughter is taking care of the cat, but she said she won't stay up until 2AM to take pictures! Sad Hilarious!

The timing of the blooms is going to be a problem for me. I don't like to wake up anytime and no way am I staying up that late.

First day of fall. All late summer blooms finished up yesterday. Summer's gone and I'm still only thinking about organizing the garage and porch for a winter habitat for cold sensitive plants.
