Gene ...

The post above reminded me that I had read an article recently about agave nectar NOT being a healthy substitute for cane sugar, so I did a Google search.

Here's a link to a similar article that you may find interesting:

Thanks for that link. Very Interesting. I have been keeping track over the last few months and my total use of sugar (Agave syrup) is about a teaspoon a month. Gene

Gene. I have to do better in the sugar world. You are doing GREAT. The benefits.....unbelievable. Every day more and more learned ...the impact on the gut, inflammation... Well, I am preaching to the choir and I should follow my own advice. You kniw my grandkids take snacks to school...it is so darn HARD ..they don't want carrot sticks. And whether is sounds mature or not..they want to have a fun thing like the other kids ..and there is something to that. I know that is not what we want as parents ..and we have a resoonsibility to teach and provide healthy. But is there value in looking forward to snack? Is there value in eating what the other kids are? Being part of that pack of sameness...we HEAR " NO " but I disagree. How many nuts can a kid eat?? Raisins loaded with sugar. Fruit gets boring. I give 20 ( 100 calories) of tiny marshmallows.. They last a long time..they are fun. I send with a toothpick to stab 'em. And that little rat..rats me out.
" mama....Honey gave me marshmallows " she actually feels guilty ..not about ratting me out but because she knows mama would not approve. So I send strawberry mini wheats ( 12 ) yes sugar..carbs..but whole grain too. I can't win. I found himemade at the co-op whole wheat rolls eith about 10 dark chocolate chips in the entire roll. And Insend with a tablespoon cream cheese. These are really whole grain..an hour later the kid is in the bathroom. so far no ratting..hahahaha

Lots of fresh fruits in the refrigerator that I just bought at the grocery store. Managed to get past the gooey baked goods without buying any. I do have a sweet tooth and I guess that isn't gonna change.

Still I bought lots of chicken, which I think is healthy eating. Was tempted to buy fish or seafood. Probably will next shopping trip.

Chicken is a lot cheaper than seafood and more versatile, IMO. Just watch the way you prepare it. Grnr

Pork is lean with the right cut and can do as much as with chicken

Yes, I had almost given up on Pork since they took most of the fat out but prepared the right way, I love it. Gene

I've cut my sugar, too. I had some home grown tomatoes the other night for a salad and dang ! those toms tasted too sweet ! Love 'em ...

I just had remembered all of the original hype about agave syrup and am beginning to understand that we have to often read further to really understand enough to make informed decisions these days.

Thanks for the candy article. It was a good link.

Without the fat Pork seems dry and tasteless to me. It really needs the fat for flavor.

I love a slab of pork spare ribs. They haven't managed to take all the fat out of those and they taste so good.

Inknow exactly what younmean Rita

But lean and breaded like a chicken cutlet and baked is MOIST and delicious
Fried like a chicken cutlet ditto ( breaded )

Grilled like a chicken cutlet...nah...but grilled or roadted when whole and sliced paper thin ( marinated or not ) is delicious ..needs come out from heat slightly undercooked and then it finishes up on the counter ..

Lean on the stove with garlic and black beans and balsamic over rice is a puerto rican favorite..that would be thin and bone in

Another way to keep it moist is to pierce with a meat tenderizer, then marinate, and most important, don't overcook. Works well with skinless boneless chicken breasts, too. Of course, any meat that's not cooked like shoe leather, my husband says "It's wet. It's not cooked enough". Grumbling

I marinate most of my Pork overnight in the ref. Best ingredient? Key Lime juice. Not the same as regular Lime juice. Add your favorite spices of course and no salt. Gene
