Why would you be sorry, Gene ?

Rita loves growing vegetables. She loves walking and gets lots of exercise. Many people make other healthy choices than cooking things from scratch.

I do eat much of what I grow. Raw or barely cooked.
But no way would I be making my own yogurt.

I think I eat fairly healthy. I do eat red meat which some people avoid but I eat far more chicken and fish than beef.

And I love veggies and fruits. But my downfall is I do have a sweet tooth and like donuts, cake, ice cream and things like that.

Day 2 of the "new plan". I was down 1.2 pounds today. The first 10 days are a detox. Must be a diuretic in one of those capsules I am taking. LOL

My breakfast was supposed to be a protein, complex carb, and fruit. I had a leftover burger from last night (protein is protein, as far as I'm concerned........LOL), some old fashioned oats, and grapefruit.

Since I have been working on loosing 5 pounds I have been starting off my day with my super green food and protein smoothie type shake.

I take either Soy Milk or Almond Milk. Add some cinnamon (for flavor), a scoop of either Whey protein or goats milk protein, a scoop of Garden of Life Raw Meal and a scoop of Garden of Life Perfect Food Raw. It all gets mixed in the blender.

Maybe not the best tasting stuff but this mix is very healthy. Gives you all the protein you need for the day and the super greens give you far more than your 5 recommended servings of veggies. Plus it detoxes and give you energy.

There are yogurts which aren't high in sugar, you just have to read the labels. We eat Dannon Light and Fit nonfat Greek yogurt every day. While they do contain some Splenda, most are only about 9 grams of carbs and around 12 grams of protein.

Greek yogurt in general is higher in protein than regular yogurt.

I love yogurt. I've eaten it for breakfast almost every day for 25 or 30 years. I usually have it with fresh berries.

I like the regular yogurt over the Greek yogurt. I used to buy the really low calorie stuff but then got out of that habit and just switched back to the common. I might have to start reading all the yogurt labels if I want to find one with less sugar.

But my favorite, Yoplait has that lots of sugar I was writing about. Of course these are all ones with fruit, I really don't like common plain yogurt.

I have never really liked yogurt. I have forced myself to learn to like some of the low calorie yogurts, but they do have more sugar in them than others, but since I don't like them much, I don't eat much of them.

They say our taste buds differ and some people's taste buds react strongly to bitter, sour, and tart more strongly than others. I guess that is me.

I have had to learn how to tolerate many foods that have those characteristics without trying to sweeten them up, but it is always a challenge. I can't even manage to find ways to cover the bitterness up with spices. It's like downing the worst tasting medicine you can imagine.

Greek yogurt unfortunately is what I call a "gag me" food. I keep buying some and trying to learn to like it, but so far, no matter how I try to use it, I just cannot find a way to make it go down well.

I have learned to eat many foods I thought I didn't like by just trying them in new recipes regularly over and over and over until I got used to them, but some foods remain "gag me" foods. Greek yogurt is one of them.

It's odd that I do like sour creme. Go figure ... Whistling

Oh my, I can't even imagine not liking tomatoes.

As to taste and yogurt and spices, I don't think it is unusual for some to love it and some to hate it. For instance my friend loves East Indian food. Very spicy with spices which just the smell of which make my stomach upset. So yup, lots of different ideas of what tastes good. And that's a good thing. No reason we should all be alike.

Fortunately for me I do like many foods considered healthy. I guess I just don't eat enough of them though.

I do like my sweets. But since I have been loading up on the morning super green food smoothies I am not craving them like I used to do all all time.

My Mediterranean diet has worked for 63 years. It is varied, provides a good mix of the food groups, is affordable, pops up ,every year on the docs recommendations and does well ( report card wise) when studied .

I have eaten yogurt..I do not hate it ...but that shiver as the spoon approaches ..... that I dread.

Anna..no red sauce on your pizza or pasta?

I'm supposed to follow the DASH diet, which is very similar to the Mediterranean diet.

Rosie, yes, I use sauce on pizza. I don't "do" spaghetti.........just don't care for it. And I like chili. I just use tomato JUICE, which has no hunks of tomato in it. As long as the juice is "with" something I'm fine. I can't drink the stuff........eewww.............gives me shivers just thinking about it. No bloody Mary for me. Yuck.

I guess I am supposed to be on the Dash Diet also. I just eat my own version of what I consider healthy and don't worry about if it conforms to any diet plan.

That is a good link, I just went and looked at it.

I really fall short on any whole grain. In fact I cannot think of any whole grain I am eating and my only nuts are in the almond milk I have just started using.

I don't drink dairy milk but I use it in cooking. However eat yogurt and plenty of cheese. I also eat eggs, love eggs.

Now it also said limited amounts of poultry and red meats. Well, I don't consume that much red meat anymore but I do rely on chicken heavily for a protein source.

I do really believe in a heavy amount of the types of foods that would go in a vegan diet but don't believe in going vegan.

On Doctor Oz once he was saying how we were mostly not going to give up meat and go vegan. But how we could all become more healthy by adding at least one totally vegan meal each day, more if it suits you. Sounds very reasonable to me.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of making yogurt, it is very easy to make Greek Yogurt from regular yogurt.

Get a big container of regular plain yogurt, your choice Lo fat, non fat or regular.
Place a coffee filter into a sieve and hang over a bowl. Put yogurt into the filter. Cover with Saran or Press and Seal. Refrigerate over night or longer. The whey will drain from the yogurt and you will be left with the thickened Greek-style yogurt. If you continue to let it drain for an extra day, you will be left with the even thicker yogurt cheese.

Mix in fruit, honey etc to naturally sweeten your Greek Yogurt. You can add herbs and spices to Yogurt Cheese for a good spread on crackers or in place of cream cheese on a bagel.
Life is short, Break the rules, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love Truly, Laugh
uncontrollably, And never regret anything that made you Smile.

Cheryl ... is it OK with you, if I let you make the yogurt and I'll just put it on my list of things to do some day ? ... Smiling

I really don't like it well enough to even put that much time into the process .. Rolling my eyes.

I'm just too lazy. I know lots of people look at something and say "I'll bet I can make that myself!!!". I, on the other hand, hear someone talk of how to make something and say "Oh, I'm sure I can buy it already made!" Rolling on the floor laughing

Well now that is very interesting as I didn't know it could be done!!

I will just stick to the regular style yogurt with fruit mixed in as I really don't care for the Greek Style that much.
