It can help to use a diet tracker, too. When I first started to count fat and salt, I used one and found it helpful. Now I just do a few days now and again. The one I use is myfitnesspal.com. It's free online and there is a good database to consult for portion size, calories, fat, etc. However, you can pick which nutrients you track. It also lets you keep track of exercise.

ShadyGreenThumb said:Yes, we have been taught to get more bang for our buck, more food for less money, and that includes eating out. I am not saying to leave it behind. Often I ask for a box early, portion out what I am not supposed to eat and place it in the box for lunch or dinner the next day. In fact, I've learned to enjoy left overs for lunch or dinner the next day. Most restaurants in our area are used to handing out boxes. Maybe some of our population is learning portion control?

There was a Black Bean Quesadilla plate at Chili's that they used to serve that when portioned out correctly, I could make 3 full meals from. Hard to know that unless you understand what a portion is. Rice is cheap. They put 3 full portions of rice on that plate ALONG with the 3 serving portions of Quesadilla. How did I know that? I learned it from a dietitian.

I rarely eat out at a restaurant. Nope I just clean my plate. But yes, If I did go out often it might be a different story.

I don't mind the large add ons of food. Here I sometimes get the lunch specials at the Chinese Restaurant. I do take out. They add a huge, huge amount of rice. So my take out gives me two meals. A good deal for me.

I simply put away my salt shaker and don't use it. Don't add salt when I am cooking either. If you buy food there is already too much salt added.

You should use Himalayan pink salt. It has minerals in it.

It might have to try that. But I really don't need any more salt in my food.

I call this egg stew. Scrambled egg, spinach, tomatoes and cheese. No added salt or spices.

My friend makes this for a quick meal and shares. I figure it must be healthy eating!!

I'm sure I'd like that, but I'd have to drain it or cook off the liquid on high heat. I'd like the taste though.

There is no added liquid. It comes from the tomatoes and spinach. So sometimes it turns out slightly drier but it does always have a fair amount of liquid. It is very tasty.

Yep, I'd have to drain in a colander or reduce by cooking on high heat. I like eggs, but... my favorite is plain old hard boiled eggs. And I like scrambled eggs best with veggies- onions, spinach, tomatoes, peppers... but I want 'em dry... Maybe I'm just weird...

Well, you could cook it down some. And this was a particularly soupy batch. The more spinach and tomatoes added the more liquid it turns out. But I really like it best with lots of tomatoes and spinach.

It's really very good. But I know everyone doesn't always agree.
