Hot and very windy again, but a thunderstorm brought a heavy shower which was something. So good I took some pics even tho wind was bouncing them around. Some were later shredded by the rain.

Vickie. My MM is part shaded which is good as it only gets rain watered. Last year critters ate most buds so maybe it has more energy this year from that. It has been there a couple of years with some root competition.

After 3 years of scapes being eaten down b4 flowering, FFE on BORDER BRIDE. Though only partly opened, and more dark cream/light tan than near white, I think I can confirm its ID. Thumb of 2016-11-09/bron/3aaf10

SECRET GARDEN had 2 blooms which weren't too close together. I lowered by 100% the brightness of the pic I took because the light was so intense. Thumb of 2016-11-09/bron/3ec47f

And apologies, in strong light my display viewer doesn't work, so low down pics were half missed.
Unfortunate, as PINK TRANQUILITY had 2 lovely blooms today. It is very diamond dusted

Just popped in to enjoy the pretty pictures here and say hello. All looking amazing to me, but really the one that caught my eye, same as last year is Glen's FORTY-SECOND STREET posted a few days ago. Wow, what a lovely thing.

I got a box of divisions in September from another member, and divvied them up between my garden here in Florida for the evergreens, and my daughter's in Utah for the dormants and semi-evergreens. Anybody know if my evergreens here should be thinking about blooming again now? I'm kind of worried that they got confused and think there was a very short winter .. . . they're in pots and I could pull them into some shade to slow them down if needs be?

Hope Glen got some rain. We had 40mm so that was great as the wind was pretty constant.

FFE for me of SPACECOAST SEA SHELLS. A bit disappointed as it is very yellow (bright throat, and almost buff/manila folder petals) and not cream as I had hoped. But nice markings and nice purple. It is in shade but bright light, and with other plants that (so far) don't have rust. Thumb of 2016-11-10/bron/714db6

That is interesting about SPACECOAST SEA SHELLS Bron. Those appliques can look stunning in adverts but often two dimensional in life. I am a fan of appliques, though.

I got some rain Bron. It came in two waves. It was getting a bit desperate here with the dry. The cats hated the thunder, the little whimps.

Elaine, I find they do get mixed up if coming from colder areas to warmer areas and especially across thousands of miles. I always try to make myself cut the scapes off based on the idea that all the energy should then be concentrating on foliage and root growth. But, naughtily, usually curiosity about the bloom wins Rolling my eyes. .

Thanks for the comments about the Milanese Mango hybrids. MM is interesting in passing on strong scapes, lush foliage, shades of burning orange, mobs of blooms, rust résistance and degrees of waxiness and colour fasting. But the blooms can look a bit wolfish and greedy. I have done some crossing this season to try and tame it. Sometimes I think I shouldn't try.

Here are some more M and Ms. Some you have seen.

This is the sleepy one in that the flower tends to be tubular.

Thumb of 2016-11-10/Gleni/13fddc

The next is a small dormant that I have held onto. The foliage dies off completely above ground in the colder months. It has been a difficult plant. It took four years to flower. A little of this underperforming might have been due to abuse. Why do I want to breed a dormant anyway? I was also disappointed it didn't set pods this season. I have its pollen frozen if I can think of something for it. The bloom might have promise.

Thumb of 2016-11-10/Gleni/cc1522

I have another dormant that is about to flower for the first time soon. It better look good. It is a sibling to 2012 119.

Last week, this next one flowered for the first time ever. I quite like it. More darker and stormy contrasting a large yelow throat. It should have flowered last year but refused to.

This last one just flowered 4 days ago for the first time this season. It is an orange drink bitone with the sepals darker which is not showing up well in this first bloom. It is a sibling to the dormants. I shifted it this year and it has not been happy with the move.

It is an attractive neat bloom.

I have another yet to flower for this season, too. It is a weirdo and the bloom is thick and waxy. I am always all eyes when it flowers. Alas, I had to move it this year because of a vigorous papaya tree. Even more alas, I accidentally cut into the crown of one of the scapes. Crown rot set in and I lost all but one fan. Nearly broke my heart.

But it didn't.

When it was hot and humid I could smell the daylilies as I approached them. But today they are overpowered by a gardenia bush and a climbing bauhinia that has small pink flowers.

Happy to see SIR STEVEN which I knew I still but it had lost its label. I thought the petals were longer when it last flowered. It is actually darker and a little more bluish purple than the pics
