Rollers have been added. Only 3 Jovibarbas were missing "Rollers" as a common name.

valleylynn said:I just did a search on houseleek. Sure enough it came up with all the semps. What if some ones types in houseleeks (with an s at the end). It doesn't pick up on that.

This is a currently weakness in the search engine: it doesn't search for plural or other spelling changes. So, "tomatoes" returns nothing, and "Crepe myrtles" returns nothing.

It's something that I'll look at when it's time to enhance the search system.

I think we need a parent page for Primula, and unless I'm mistaken, this information can be applied to all of them across the board:

Plant Habit: Herb/Forb
Life Cycle: Perennial
Sun Requirements: Partial or Dappled Shade
Leaves: Evergreen
Flowers: Showy
Propagation: Other Methods: Division

I can't think of any exceptions to those rules. Can anyone else think of any?

And if we're striving for uniformity, should the main common name of all of them be "Primrose," with all of the other ones currently being used ("English Primrose," "Candalabra Primrose," etc.) listed only as other options?

Thank you, Dave.

Lynn, it's easy enough to "uncheck" a box when these rare exceptions come up. The information applies to most cases, and I suppose any experience with having them go dormant in a particular location could be a useful addition to the comments section.

How do you find the encyclopedia pages for plant types? I get lost. e.g. if I search "tomato" I get specific tomatoes but not generic "tomato".
Confused

soon enough I will make these very visible and findable from the plants database homepage.

Dave, when you added this information to the main Primula page, you clicked the wrong box and said the fruit is showy, not the flowers.

This is why I prefer people to submit the data proposals themselves. It's so easy to make a mistake when you're checking them off based on what someone else has given you. I will correct it.

Dave,

I see that the Salvia "Parent Page" is spelled with parenthesis, so it appears first instead of between "Rose of Sharon" and "Sunflower".
"(Salvia)"

Won't it be easier to find if it were spelled "Salvia"?

Also, I'm getting some text ready that would make general comments applying to all Brassicas.

Can / should I create a new Parent Plant Page by trying to add the plant name "Brassica" with no species or cultivar? Or would you do that?

I plan to add specific cultural comments about different groups of Brassicas. E.g., how to grow broccoli, Bok Choy and Chinese Cabbage.

Bok Choy - Brassica rapa, Chinesis Group
Komatsuna - Brassica rapa var. perviridis ("Japanese Mustard Spinach")
Chinese Cabbage - Brassica rapa, Pekinensis Group
Broccoli Raab / Rapini - Brassica rapa, Ruvo Group
Turnip - Brassica rapa var. rapa

Broccoli & Cauliflower - Brassica oleracea, Botrytis Group
Kai-lan - Brassica oleracea, Alboglabra Group
Kale & Collard greens - Brassica oleracea, Acephala Group
Kohlrabi - Brassica oleracea, Gongylodes Group
Brussels Sprouts - Brassica oleracea, Gemmifera Griup

P.S. I guess there is no way to insert tabs?

Rick, I have created the plant:

Brassicas (Brassica)

I also gave you access to edit the encyclopedic pages for it. Have fun. Smiling

I know that Bob had mentioned something about a unformity with the heucheras in order to find things more simply. Is this something we can do with hechs as well?

Dave - not sure I am putting this in the correct forum..... however......

Bob stated:

Carolyn just wanted your opinion on that I think it is confusing that so many named Heuchera in the data base that are hybrids have a species name in front of them like Berry Smoothie has Villosa when it is really a combination of americana and villosa. I just think it makes plants harder to find when most are in the front section and then one is put to the back like Prince & Prince of Orange are in 1 area and Prince of Silver is many pages away because a species was added to name"

is there a way to either standardize this in the encyclopedia or in the names of plant types themselves ? I guess part of my concern is that I am unsure as to how the database and the encyclopedia are linked together.....
