I don't know if this was such a great time to have two days off. We are under a "bad air" warning and you can't see across the valley to the mountain on the other side of mine at all. There are 11,000 acres on fire around me. Fortunately my hillside is not.
Where I am we've only had 1 puny little rainfall since the first of August and that was a couple of weeks ago and did not do much to alleviate the dryness. There is a chance tonight for a little bit. Any amount has to help.

Is anyone else on fire? I know that there are other places with even worse drought and dry leaves on the ground. I've been trying to stay in but I am developing a handsome cough. Locals have been advised to use face masks if they are having problems so I am running out to get some before they are all gone.

Alana, we had a fire in the hills behind us two years ago and it really scared me. It was started by lightening and they fought it for two weeks. I hope they get it under control and you stay safe. I wish I could send some of our rain we have been getting all week your way.

Thanks for the well wishes. The sun is out, but it is gloomy and gray because of all of the smoke. It's looking good for a little rain tonight, though.

Sounds scary to me too and I hope the situation resolves favorably very soon.

Meanwhile, Alana, I don't know if this idea has any merit, but I wonder if running your air conditioner might help filter indoor air and make it more breathable than outdoor air? Would running a sprinkler near an exterior wall and moving it around be helpful?

It will be okay, I think, with the rain coming. I imagined that some of you must also be in this same scenario. I'm glad you aren't.
Yes Karen, thank you. I'm running the AC. That was another thing we were advised to do. If it makes any sense, it looks better outside now that clouds are building in. That weak sunlight trying to penetrate the gray smoke revealed a dystopian future earth. Last night I drove around and looked at the mountains circled by their red and gold fire lines. Fortunately, we are experiencing very little wind today.

We got our "daily drizzle" back a month or so ago. It won't be at all dry here until next summer.
