Yup, lots of ways to earn and spend acorns on the site. I love going to botanical gardens and plant shows in my area because the plants are (generally) correctly labeled and they tend to have the "best" example of the plant because of the care it received. Since I live in a subtropical zone, I also get the chance to take pictures of many plants we don't have pictures of. And it's true - you get two acorns if you submit the first photo of a plant! You also get one acorn for a photo in each category. So one acorn for a picture of the bloom, one for the leaves, one for the whole plant, one for habitat, etc. There's even a category for "winter interest" so there's no excuse for you Northerners not to go out and take some pictures this winter! It can be especially helpful for deciduous trees, or even showing us how you overwinter your plants.

I also like to comment on plants. I suppose it's most helpful if it's your own experience. But other things can be useful, too. Maybe you have a neighbor that likes to push their zone and manages to grow things that normally don't grow in your area. That could be a comment! I like to buy vintage books on butterflies and plants. I have one from the 1920's that I've been using to make comments on various wildflowers. Knowledge of a plant can change (or be lost) over the course of 100 years! I always attribute the source and try to phrase it in my own way or put quotes around the parts that are too specific for me not to quote verbatim.

And I want a t-shirt, too! Thumbs up

Did something go wrong with this post, I'm not seeing anything other than a search box? It doesn't say edited so doesn't look as though Pamela deleted something she'd written Confused

It's been deleted. I'll investigate what caused it.

@Calif_Sue and @RickCorey and I think someone else -
Are y'all saying that it's sorta ok to plagiarize? I can do that, she says proudly.

@mellielong - As it just so happens, I'm going to a plant sale tomorrow morning if (a) it doesn't rain and (b) I can get my lazy self up and out early. The sale is a fundraiser for a chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas. I always learn things from the experienced gardeners when I go to these sales. Once I took home a styrofoam cup with what looked to be a twig inside. In one season that twig has grown quite large, as you can see from this picture. And if it were planted in an open field it would really be huge. It's a butterfly magnet called Flame Acanthus.

Joan, the USF Botanical Gardens are holding their fall sale this weekend and the FL Native Plant Society will be there, as usual. I don't have room for any plants right now, so I'm avoiding the whole area!

I wouldn't say it's okay to plagiarize (even sort of). I've seen comments where people have quoted Wikipedia or seed catalogs, though. When I asked about using the book I have, I was told to put things in my own words and I also give credit to the author and name the book. Some of the things she says are just too good for me not to quote it directly but I put quotes around it so people know it's not me saying it. I think it's also helpful if you can add something to the quote. For example, some of the plants she mentions as being "rare". Sometimes, I'll say how even 100 years ago this was a rare plant. Sometimes, I get to say how this plant must have recovered because it's commonly grown now. The author also writes mostly about plants in the PA/NY area so I like to talk about my experience growing it or seeing it grown in FL. So there are certainly ways to use sources without plagiarizing. I guess it's a bit like citing a work in a paper you write.

@mellielong - way back when you were trying to help me make sense of this acorn business, you mentioned that there is a 'recent tip list on the main page'. I'm a'looking but I don't see it. Maybe I'm confused (well, no 'maybe' there) about which page is the 'main page'. Keep in mind that I have yet to fiddle with my home screen so I'm still looking at what I guess would be the August 2016 website design. Can you point me to it, please ma'am?

Main page is your Home page and you will have to fiddle with your customizing of it as that tip feature is not one of the features automatically shown on the original. ( at least I think so, I already forgot what it looked like since I edited it right away) And you are not seeing an older version, everyone has the same update as of Sept 29.

If you want to go to the home page, click the icon that looks like a house up in the left top corner. If you have added "Recently Popular Photos" when you customized your page, it should be there. If you didn't change your homepage, it should be there anywhere somewhere on the page. I just moved mine near the top because I like to see the pretty pictures.

OK, I finally have to ask. On the home page, next to the watched forums. To the left of each forum name is some kind of red squiggly mark., or rather two red squiggly. I thought I'd figure out what it is but I give up. Is it a flower or something???

Hi there,
Can you please tell me how to access my treemail drafts folder now? I can't seem to find it. If it makes a difference, I am on my mobilevphone at the moment.
Thanks!

Click on the tree mail icon, then select either of the two choices and then you will see the large white box over at the top right and the drafts folder is listed there.

There is no such thing on my mobile. Neither on the "compose page" or on the "full tree mail" option.

Thanks, but the drafts folder does not show on my mobile phone, even though I had saved an email to drafts. Same with sent emails. That is actually why I was trying to find it. If it makes a difference, I am using an Android phone. It does show up fine on my PC.
