With temps in the mid 90's reaching 100 the daylilies are confused. I'm seeing a lot of scapes for this time of year. This daylily is showing a nice bloom for mid October..

Nice!

(I'd be wilting and cowering indoors under those temperatures. We're finally down to mostly-in-the-70s daytime temps - good gardening, dog-walking, and hiking weather!)
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

We will have blooms in November if they don't cook. Hilarious!
Several daylilies are reblooming and it is so warm and so dry. It has been a while since I have seen it so dry. I have some seedlings (200 -300) out in a pasture area that I planted in April with no water and no care since. Such tough little plants are hanging in there, but I wanted to move some to a better location and I could not get a shovel in the ground. I watered a few of them three different times this weekend and finally dug just deep enough to get 5 of them out of the ground.
Not taking many pictures lately but did get this one yeaterday.

So sorry to hear about your drought conditions. Hopefully some rain will come your way, Terry. I can definitely identify with your dry conditions as my area has been pretty dry too. We had a bit of rain on Friday but it was barely enough to saturate half an inch of soil. Though I will take what I can get.

Terry, I really like that seedling. It reminds me of an orchid.

I wish you a rainy Fall and Winter.

Terry - I agree with Gerry! Love that large green throat! A lovely seedling!

So have you done much breeding using the miniature and small daylilies? If so, any bloom photos you can share with us?

Spunky Monkey put up a late scape. Even though the harsh winds blew it over and the near frosty nights have marred the color, it is so nice to see a late October bloom.

My seedling is a very good performer as I have 4 large clumps in 4 years. Also 5 branches and 25+ buds but I have not done much with it and not considered registering.

We typically bloom seedlings at 2 years old. Our 2 year old seedling had a low percentage of blooming this year. Only 20-30% of 2 year old seedlings bloomed this year. This is the first crop to work with lots of my mini and small flowers and the low percentage that bloomed still leaves lots to see next year. I have seedlings from Colorado Blues, Little Blue Angel, Crystal Blue persuasion and small flowered seedlings that are on the watch list for the future. I kicked the mini program in high gear this year. I grow over 100 different named mini and small flowers and have a few thousand seeds with several hundred now growing. I should post pics on a seedling forum.

I know it is just an old species but has sentimental value brought to Oklahoma in 1889 by my great grandmother.

Well, these are not actually October blooms, but they might become November blooms if the weather continues with this unseasonably warm and very dry weather.

I had thought the last rebloom bud had opened on 'Super Purple' but it surprised me today with one more bud. I don't know if I just missed seeing it or if it actually built a late bud. That is a small seed pod over on the right, the extra height of the scape on the left with the bud, makes me think it might be doing a little bud building being the scape is so tall.

Almost missed the bloom, it had become very limp and dark due to the 90 degree heat, but I did get a photo:
