I like my handheld labeler too, but only use it in the house too.

I have been reading this thread and it started me thinking about what type of labeling machine I would buy if I were to buy one. So I looked up a few models and really like the Brother that connects to a computer. I don't know exactly how that works, but would love to be able to copy and paste correctly spelled cultivar names onto my labels. Does anyone use the Brother PT-P700? I ask about that one because it appears to be the cheapest one that connects to a computer and also uses the 24mm wide tape.

I don't have the Brother PT P700, but B&H Photo has it for a decent price of around $62. (I like shopping at B&H!). Amazon has it for around $50. There are a few reviews on B&H's website of this label maker. For the price, I would get it if my current labeler ever went kaput.

PC Magazine also has some reviews of it:

358 reviews on Amazon. It's nice to have someone I know personally who has used something, but when all else fails, I rely on customer reviews.

Well my ptouch labeler that died takes 8 "AA" batteries. This morning I decided to check and make sure I put the batteries in right and guess what, one battery was not in right. Turned the battery around the correct way and my labeler is now working. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

Everything came yesterday! Labels and the metal stakes to put them on from Paw Paw Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! New winter project is to actually print the labels and attach them so I'm ready to go in the Spring! I'll let you know how these work because I can run the waterproof labels through my laser printer. I think I'll run a couple off and put them out to see how they winter over after the snow hits them!

My small yard looks like a pet cemetary Sticking tongue out
I use a brother PT, and..... I buy faux wooden window blinds, my boyfriend cuts each row into 3rds. So each stake is about 9 inches with a point on one end to poke in the ground. I've used them for 4 years now and the labels still look new. I do not print the hybridizer or the plants details( I have plantstep for that), just the names.
A True gardener will purchase a thousand plants before thinking of where to put them :P

I only list the names on my tags too. However if it's a dip I will write dip on the tag because sometimes I forget what's what and I mostly haves tets. I don't bother with the hybridizer's name or details (I have garden.org for that) Thumbs up

I sometimes wish I had a smaller hand held labeler. I seem to procrastinate getting mine done and I leave the temporary blinds in place for to long. I need to get busy and make about 20 new ones.

I only have the name on my tags because of eyesight issues. If someone wants the other info I have it on the plant list here.
