I just tried the FB auctions and I rarely have one that never gets a bid. Unlike the LA for me. It is best for the later intros. Mike does have a good auction. I don't have anything negative to say about it.

I first registered on the LA in May 2016.This is the first year to finally bid and buy. Have some plants coming in the spring from instant buys, can't comment further than the sellers were all cordial. I've purchased a buncha seed though, and the uniform generosity of these hybridizers is really humbling. Won 7 crosses (still bidding on 2) 87 seeds, from Daredevil AKA Linda Michaels, received 11 crosses, 198 seeds. Won 5 crosses, 30 seeds from Mamalahlee AKA Laura Hood, received 8 crosses and 73 seeds. Won 6 crosses, 35 seeds from Jwwc AKA James Clancy. Received 7 crosses, 57 seeds. All are in cold/moist strat in vermiculite, and I'm so looking forward to seeing them bloom. I LOVE the LA! And I'm Chili there, BTW.

I have to ask. Who is Locustsalsa on the LA? They must have some really deep pockets. I fear I will have to sell a kidney, to win these last 2 Daredevil auctions. Lol!

Thing is, he has been going heavy since the first seeds in July. The money is one thing, but the sheer amount of plants and seeds is more work than I can imagine even if you had a crew. Year after year. Hes good for the auction tho, altho frustrating at times.

All very good advice! Daredevil has a Military School x Tooky Tooky Bird unregistered (yet) seedling that is gorgeous! Every time try to get a cross with it, Locustsalsa outbids my max. I do, and am, keeping a ceiling in mind, and have been shopping around enough to recognize what is and isn't a good deal on CV's. All the seeds just seem amazingly inexpensive and full of possibilies! Hard to resist.
And luckily she has relisted a couple crosses, so here I go again. I think it was our own Treeclimber who beat me out of the listing last time. Wish me luck!

Will the sellers do reserves on the seeds like they do on the plants?

The auctions run from Monday to Monday. Mine starts Feb 19th.

I still purchase plants on the LA, if I am unable to find them locally.

Hi Teresa,

You're the second seller I'm aware of who has stopped selling on the LA and moved to FaceBook, the other being Blue Ridge.

It seems to me that an "open" auction site would be a better venue, serving a wider audience than a "club membership" site.

Is there something negative about the Lily Auction that I'm not aware of? I like the way the LA is set up, how I can search, track my buying history, and I am very happy with the sellers I buy from. I've read here about Mike Longo doing a good job of keeping deadbeat sellers and buyers under control, but most of all, I really like the idea of not having to become a member of an intrusive, pervasive social media empire in order to buy daylilies & seed.

James, I have several older daylilies and for me many didn't get any bids on the LA. I would still use it for my later intros. It is a good venue for selling. Good Luck on bidding!

Diana, I'm with you in the admiration of Linda Michaels creations. I was surprised to see many patterned seedlings being used. Really the only thing better than a Spider/UF, is a patterned one! I feel honored to have these seeds.

Thank you so much Pam, for the tip to CK closed listings! Took me a bit to figure out how to make it work with unregistered seedlings in a cross, but it does work. I no longer feel as if Locustsalsa is running the table. MLSTTB-55 (Daredevil seedling) crosses have ran between $10+ and $21 last year, and LS is not the only winner. I'm sure I will win these, this time. And you showed me how to do it! Thanks again! Tina

I must chime in on Daredevil. I won seeds from her on the LA several years ago. It is one of the few seedlings I currently have that I might actually name and register. Linda was very generous with bonus seeds, too.
Here is my favorite seedling from her seeds (photo taken last year):
