Thank you for this info. I didn't even think about that possibility.

I did delete my email address from my post, although someone had "quoted" it so it still shows. I've sent her a TreeMail asking if she can edit that part out.

I've also clearly opened up something negative here, and I don't want to impugn anyone's reputation. As such, I've deleted that whole part of my post.

Ken we all deal with bad experiences differently. It is what it is. No one can tell someone else how to handle their situation. We can only make suggestions. The majority of small daylily plants go on and survive. It may take a couple or more years to bloom. Some may not thrive due to the genes based on locations, otherwise most turn out ok.

Nothing negative, Ken....

That's what I'm trying to avoid. I am not saying you don't have the right to be unhappy about your purchase, but when you notice that this particular topic has already had nearly 100,000 views, that's a pretty big hammer to use in resolving a plant dispute.

I am sorry, Terry! That's my mom's name, btw...but also a guy friend's name. Sexist me assumed. My mom would smack me upside the head for doing that.

Sorry I'm just now seeing your post. I've been reading this string backward. I THINK you and several other folks were discussing Judy Davisson.

When I saw your pic, I honestly thought for a moment it was a box filled with heads of Romaine lettuce! Those are some serious fans, with amazing foliage.

If I'm not mistaken, she's located here in NC. A lot of the NC hybridizers are out of my price range (think single digits to very VERY low double digits), but her plants seem super high quality.

Must. Visit. This. Spring.

Well, ya got me, @MrKGDickie ... Blinking

I opened this thread too early this morning, and thought Steve had somehow talked Judy out of a box of daylilies in January.

Heh, heh... Your (current) price range doesn't jibe with the words "daylily" and "obsession" in your tag line. nodding

"This too, shall pass."

Seriously tho, it's all about time. The daylilies don't change over the years, but their prices do. One of these days, even the exalted $700 H. New Frontiers will be selling for $15 on the Lily Auction. I'm not sure at which point before that I'll be buying it. I have to wait until it hits that "sweet spot".

James, wish I have the discipline to wait for the price to hit that "sweet spot". Or it would seem that my sweet spot is getting higher each year. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

I had no idea HNF was that expensive...why I wonder. Well I have some crosses I set aside, might get them back out and give them a try.

Oh, my goodness! How did you miss "The Year of the Pentaploid"? :whistling:

https://heavenlygardens.com/im...

It's been a long time since something has triggered daylily dreams like this. The sales page opens so many doors to the imagination, so many possibilities, things that "could be". It's calmed down a bit now, but a lot of $$$ has changed hands in the seed auctions because of this plant.

HNF sold for two hundred something this year I think.... will check.

Checked, it is trading in the 200's, but one sold for $123 in October, probaably a fluke. I have so many of the crosses, I think it might feel like cheating if I bought one, but I can't explain why.

Some auctions slip through the cracks, and don't get the attention they deserve. But, it makes me a little nervous when I win something at an unusually low price on the LA. The last two times it happened, the sellers "mysteriously" couldn't fill the order due to problems beyond their control. Weirdly, one of them was auctioning the same plant a couple of months later, but at a much higher starting bid.

@jamest What does a buyer do if that happens? I've only dealt with three sellers thus far (I'm pooling shipping expenses on my bids). So far, so good.

I may be alone in this, but paying for things months in advance and only being able to hope for delivery of high quality product is NOT my modus operandi outside of LA.

Only one seller (Greengal) was able to ship when I made my first LA order, before late fall/winter set in. Her plants were awesome, and her shipping was super fast. I can't say enough good things.

That was a Store purchase...the bidding came later, and then the flood gates opened. So...yay for Greengal!! Lovey dubby

I've also dealt with online growers whose plants are of differing quality. This is just about LA, though, so I'll table that. Smiling
