I think the National Pickling Cucumber was cross pollinated with something else, LoL! Half of them out there right now are orange-yellow (maybe that is nutrient related?) And they all ended of fairly large and round....I kept thinking they might elongate, but they just plumped up, instead.

Well usually they are meant to be picked small Like Sweet pickle sizes , That why some others have taken over for the big Pickle Barrel sizes

I have had past season times when they have done as yours , not unusual ,

Oh well yellow to dry more seeds for another try Smiling

I did not grow any this year , Planted some Feverfew seedlings
Morning glories are iffy , Some Echinacea and Gaillardia seedlings going in the ground shortly ,

A couple little dayliliy seedlings from here get planted in a day or two ,
I am not doing well with my planting this season , seed sprouts I mean , Fall is looking much more successful Smiling

Jim you might try my Rutgers. I haven't fertilized my tomatoes much & this summer we've had lots of downpours. But I don't think I've lost any of those to blossom end rot. It also produces like crazy! So far it's the only one I've harvested any tomatoes from this year.

Elena , Rutgers is a good tomato , not a true beefsteak type , a sandwich type ,
The Lemon Boy and the Pear types seem to be the best this season here ,
Celosia
Seeds germinated late

I have some black pear tomatoes , with pear shaped tomatoes , the smaller of the three plants , the same seeds ,, the tomatoes are round ,,

The Rutgers seeds are bought so they will come true. I haven't had a lot of luck saving tomato seeds and having the seedlings produce as well as the original plants. I'm not sure why.

I need to grow plants from saved seed & commercial seed side by side to make sure I'm not imagining it.

Elena I get that sometimes , I can hybridize some plants , other times I get washed out bloom color , takes a couple seasons to tell if I get it right
Idea of growing from seed and saving seeds is create a plant , playing with seeds .

Elena, here is a picture of the frosted sunset snapdragons I got from you!...

The picture doesn't capture the pretty peach tones, but it is a nice snapdragon!

I have to go back and check who I got the Moonvine seeds from, but one of the seeds JUST started sprouting a few days ago. They are a little late to the party; I planted those seeds in the spring like all the others and nothing happened...until now. Hilarious! I'm not sure what to do...it is in a giant pot and I was about repurpose the dirt in it to pot up my daylilies for the move, but now...

I'm happy to see a sprout! So many things didn't do well for me this year. My petunias are only just now taking off. Only one vine bloomed 2 flowers and the others have barely grown.

I threw out a seed mix a couple of weeks ago & have 3 seedlings. Others sprouted but died. I hope they can get big enough to bloom before winter.

I think I'm going to be overwintering a lot of small plants this winter.

It's funny that you should mention petunias, they were the one thing that popped up pretty early at my house. I wasn't even expecting them, they came from last year's seed. I wonder if they need some amount of cold stratification and/or cooler temps too start, and that's why mine popped up early and yours are just getting started?

DND I started the petunias inside during the winter. I planted them out but they pretty much just sat there and barely grew. Now with the cooler weather they are really taking off. The same with some of the vines I planted. It really doesn't make sense since we had a very cool summer. These plants should like warmer weather!

Seems some of the best performers from the seed swap for me were the marigolds, brighht liites cosmos, snap dragons, fore-get me not, poppies and some varies perrenials. U am looking forward to blooms next year of fox glove, Rose campion and bell flowers to name a few.

@jimard8 I have several rose-colored dwarf yarrow plants growing and it looks like one of them is getting buds! I'm surprised because I didn't think they'd bloom the first year (especially because it took me forever to find a place to put them). I'll post a picture if they bloom. So far the weather has been very summer-like but we are almost into October so it won't be long before we have our first frost.
