Gold Rush zucchini

I pick them when they are small, and munch them as I am watering the garden. Very drought hardy ! These are from a container which has been neglected most of summer !

I'm not too big a fan of raw zucchini... although I have to admit I've never tried eating a really small one.

The really small ones are quite good raw. I sometimes eat one like that. But almost all of them I cook in various ways.

Linda, I don't have "Gold Rush," but I do grow a variety called (simply) "Golden Zucchini." They really are basically the same as the green types, although the yellow skin never seems to get bitter like the green ones can (plus, they are a lot easier to find in among the leaves of the plant!).

Golden Zucchini

Zukes don't have strong taste, but pleasant enough.
Not bitter when small.

I'm pulling my lone sterile zucchini plant today. Zero fruit, just a bunch of babies that rotted on the vine. Better luck next year! Funny, though, I just visited a friend who owns a goat farm and she loaded me up with various fruit/vegetables from her garden, but no zukes. I should have asked for a couple.

So sorry that you didn't get any zucchini. Lots of it here this year as I have had more than ever before.

I've made myself a note to plant at least 2 next year, must have been a pollination issue, the plant is healthy as can be. Oh well. I'm surrounded with farmers markets so easy enough to get some fresh ones locally.

Yes, seems like a pollination issue. Not a problem here for me as I had an entire bed of zucchini and summer squashes so planted 33 plants. Lots and lots of fruit here this season.

Planted two Magda this season. One was next to a cucumber and got the same brown splotches and pooped out after producing one giant zucchini (shown earlier in this thread). The other (in a raised bed) is still going strong a month later and pumping out a new fruit every 5 days. First time I tried this variety, but it is now my favorite zucc.

Thumbs up Thumbs up

I like Magda. Grew it both last year and this year. It is a nice one.
