First fruits. These are the early producers but most varieties will be along in a week to 10 days.

When I see the fruits you guys more down south are getting I really get to wishing I had some here already.

You know the funny thing is that in season when the garden is producing I eat so much fresh picked from my garden produce.

One time (or maybe more) I did try a zucchini from the grocery store. Yuck!! Blech!!! I don't know how they sell or how anyone can eat them. Tough, stringy and tasteless.

My home grown (no matter which variety) of zucchini and summer squashes are sweet and tender and tasty. Yumm!!

I don't think I've ever bought a zucchini, but if that's the case it's no wonder a lot of people say they don't want any! (well, that and the fact that a lot of people - around here, at least - think you're supposed to grow them until they're as big as a blimp...)

I guess I just wanted to try and I think that was before I grew my own.

I have both vegan and vegetarian friends so it is easy for me to give away zucchini.

I do sometimes miss a fruit that I didn't see and get a baseball bat size zucchini. Never tried to eat those.

That's why I like growing the "golden zucchini" -- much easier to spot! Hilarious!

I may need Rita's help. Zukes are really stepping up this year. Noon picking, threw in a couple of scallops for color. Crooknecks have been stingy this year altho I have twice as may crookneck plants as the the zukes and scallops combined.

Odd that you are getting such poor results from those crooknecks!!

The fruit from the noon picking looks delicious!!

I am pleased with the way the summer squashes look now that yesterday I put compost around each plant. Then I mulched with leaves. Control the weeds and keep the plants happy.

Many of the plants have blossom buds formed so when they grow some there will soon be flowers. I guess you can't really see the buds in the pictures. But the plants look great.

This is my zucchini and summer squash bed and it has 33 plants!! All different varieties of zucchini and yellow summer squash.

Here is a new trick I learned for removing squash bug eggs from zucchini leaves: duct tape. My plants are egg free, lots easier than scraping them off. So fun and satisfying!

Hi, Judy:

Can you post a photo of what the eggs look like? I have major trouble with squash vine borer every year, and would love to identify it sooner rather than later.

Love the duct tape idea!!!! Thumbs up

Looking great, Rita.

I've not yet planted my zucchini. I'm trying to out-wait the dreaded squash vine borer (read that they are generally done laying eggs by early July). I've tried everything else, so hopefully planting really late will work. Fingers crossed Smiling

Me, too, Rita. Zucchini is our absolutely favorite veggie, and I absolutely have been unable to grow them. It makes me so sad I can't manage to get a single zucchini when most people are giving them away.
