I have also heard that it is after you "know everything" about a subject that you actually begin to learn.

Just been catching up after two days flat on my back - feeling almost like my old self ... well good enough to catch up on the posts I have missed!

Zuzu - great roses of the day and some good titbits of info from Neal @gemini_sage and Lyn @RoseBlush1 about Tiffany!

@CindiKS
CindiKS said: I had a thought about the confusingly similar photos we have for Hot Cocoa and Hot Chocolate. Most people use both names interchangeably for the drink, so maybe they do the same for the rose?

Cindi, I think you are right! I also have my suspicions that not all the photos on HMF for these two are under the correct rose.

Lyn - thanks for the t-mail about the stripes - going to have to study it a bit! After all, I haven't read all those books so I am actually a novice in comparison Big Grin

This is National Hamburger Day. The Rose of the Day is Hamburger Deern, which has nothing to do with hamburgers. It means Hamburg Girl.

Well, Hamburger can certainly mean a resident of Hamburg who would probably merit a rose for a tribute more than some sandwich.

Sort of like the famous words ' Ich bin ein Berliner!'

Here in Switzerland we refer to jam doughnuts as 'Berliners' Hilarious! and besides there are other culinary delights such as 'Frankfurter' and 'Vienna' sausages and 'Schwarzwälder' cake - can't go on because this is making my mouth water Rolling on the floor laughing

Lady Bird Johnson was born on this day in 1912. The rose of the day is Lady Bird, a beautiful hybrid tea that's tall and produces gorgeous coral blooms, but is also overly prone to black spot in my garden. This particular photo was taken during one of the rare times that the foliage looked healthy.

Too bad about the black spot, because that is a lovely rose, Zuzu!

I am preparing for Christmas, baking and making sweets, but I find it hard to get into the Christmas spirit while it is foggy and drizzly outside. No snow for Christmas this year. Looks like we won't even have frost to make the garden look christmas-y.

But I managed to get a shot of one of my roses with frost on it before the rain started again and as it is a red rose, it does look kind of christmas-y to me!

'Grand Award Courtyard' in November.

Lilli, Grand Award Courtyard does look rather Christmas-y - lovely frosting!
Temps are on the rise here and they are predicting 7C for Christmas day. Supposed that is slightly 'better' than last year which was 14C. Seems to me that the real winter starts later every year. Lately, our coldest temps only start mid-Jan.

Anyway, looking on the bright side - anyone else notice that the shortest day for this year is a thing of the past? Hurray! Hurray!

I was waiting for the shortest day, Sharlene, and then I missed it. Hilarious! Hooray, yippee! I hate the dark.

That's a lovely rose, Lilli. I think red roses are very Christmas-y.

Today is the Emperor's Birthday. It's a big holiday in Japan. It's one of only two days a year that the public is allowed onto the grounds of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

My sisters and I went to school (Sacred Heart) with Michiko Shoda, who is now the empress. I didn't know her because I was only in the fifth grade the year she graduated, but my eldest sister was in her class.

The Rose of the Day is Emperor.

Emperor is a a beautiful rose: a lovely color, and your historical tidbits make the daily rose all the more interesting.

Oh, boy. It's National Chocolate Day. The Rose of the Day is Chocolate Sundae. This is a gorgeous rose, but it's supposed to be a climber and it has never grown beyond 6 feet in my garden in the last 8 years.

That is truly a gorgeous Zuzu! I find all of the russet's most appealing.

I hope you don't mind but ......
Seeing as today is Christmas Eve I would like to suggest another rose of the day!

Wishing all of you wherever you are a truly enchanted evening tonight and a joyous Christmas Day tomorrow!!!

I can't resist, Zuzu ... Simpson's 'Hot Chocolate' with all of it's HTs in its lineage is in the second generation of the pollen parent.

Merry Christmas to all .... Smiling

Merry Christmas to all!

We have no photos of roses with "Christmas" in their names, so I decided to choose a name conveying the spirit of the holiday. The Roses of the Day are Joyfulness, the tallest floribunda I've ever grown (7 feet tall in my garden), and Hope and Joy, a beautiful hand-painted Ralph Moore mini.
