Betsy, I see that your outdoor Amaryllis are just starting to bloom. In northern Florida, mine are also just starting to open, It's virtually impossible to ID blooms that are all red, there are too many nowadays. In general, blooms that are all red and midsize, are called Red Lion, since that was the most common red on the market for many years. It would be a big help to see another photo of both when they are fully open and also have a measurement of the size of the bloom. Measure tip to tip across the face. Your top bloom reminds me of Voodoo (also called Naughty Lady). It is a very common garden amaryllis in the Southern garden and is an early bloomer. Voodoo is not a large flower, so size is important in IDing this one.

I've been so looking forward to Santiago and it doesn't disappoint! A lovely small trumpet shaped bloom with superb colouring. Loving it.

My outdoor Amaryllis are starting to bloom. The tags soon fade, so most become NOIDs, but a few are quite distinctive. This one is Moon Scene, 4th year outside.

Lady Jane is very hardy outdoors. I have several that bloom regularly each year.

Opal Star, also called Ruby Star and Cherry Crush. This one has spread into a nice clump that is a reliable and early bloomer. One of my favorites outdoors.

Voodoo, also called Naughty Lady. A reliable early bloomer in the Southern landscape. Blooms appear before the leaves.

Barb, do you have a pic of the clump? Mine like to be outside, unfortunately only for 5-7 months depending. Smiling

I don't have current photos of the clumping opal star. I have some old photos but it will take a while to locate them. I was surprised that Opal star naturalized so quickly.

I hope Lady Jane will get some bulblets on it so I can have a clump - so far it is my favorite amaryllis. I keep singing "My Sweet Lady Jane" to it. Rolling on the floor laughing At work! Whistling My coworker must be able to hear me - she is British and went into the entire history of Lady Jane! Hilarious!

This is the second bud underneath it. Not quite as big.

How unusual is this?

Here's another red in the same pot, Red Lion?
