Very good write up Lynn! I get some of the basic colours too but they look more like you might expect of the original wild form, they are usually very small and make a big tangly plant. Some set every year in a large tub. Others setting about have a myriad of interesting colours, I will have to get some pics of the basic one when they flower next year.

It is so much fun to see what color combinations will appear each year. I'll try to remember to take more photos this coming growing season.

Janet, just wanted to let you know, my son gave me an awesome new lens for my camera. An AF Micro Nikkor 105mm, 1:2.8 D
Now all I have to do is learn how to use it. Thumbs up

Fantastic Lynn! Soon you will be wanting the 2x teleconverter too! Hilarious!

Try using it in manual mode, that's the only way you will get the full magnification and really it's dead easy! Set the lens to 'M' on the side, you also have a distance setting which I rarely take off the 0.5 metre range and if I do I forget to put it back. Rolling my eyes.

Also set the camera to 'M' then all you need to do is experiment with speed (I use mostly 1/160), EV, and f#. All changeable according to conditions, you will learn I'm sure and if you ever need help give me a shout. Thumbs up

You will also need to set the ISO, I leave it on 200, I use the back fill-in flash setting (I think) and the middle setting for focus which gives better results for me than the spot, and concentrates more light on the middle area but is also good for most situations.

I noticed 2 entries for Lilium 'Starburst' with different plants shown. Given the folks who submitted images I'm guessing both are correct. Could someone explain why the 2nd to be "registered" doesn't have to be renamed?

Starburst, hybridized by Lisa Hunt is not registered. There area number of lilies in commerce that are not registered. Any one can access the Online Lily Register (OLR) or the newest supplements on the RHS site to check if their lily is registered. I have noticed that sometimes when duplicate names (for different lilies) appear in the register it is noted that the name is not acceptable due to it previously being used. The lily with an unacceptable name may still have a description which is nice (for the moderator trying to figure it all out!!).

Some of Lisa's lilies are being evaluated by Richard Hyde in the UK and if selected may reappear in the future, under new names.

That's interesting!

http://garden.org/plants/searc...

I found another called Starburst too! If the photo is correct, I would think the supplier has the name correct as they are specialists in Lilium here.. the bottom photo will enlarge, it looks like a L.auratum hybrid.

http://mygarden.rhs.org.uk/blo...

I searched for Starburst on their site, it brought up Playtime which is the one featured as Starburst!

http://www.hwhyde.co.uk/lilies...

It's the same on these sites..

The dark centred one is Tango Starburst of the Tango series, I'm not sure how that should be listed as we don't do series yet.

http://www.learn2grow.com/plan...

Seed being sold as Tango Starburst, I doubt they would come true!

Some history of it here, with tango used with a capital and without..

http://www.naturegay.com/lily-...

All lilies in the series get the name 'Tango'.. but how is it listed, some say "Tango Lily 'Starburst'"

http://freegardenideas.com/sto...

Another one! These can't be correct..

Different again..

I haven't come across an orange one.

I see you have commented on this Connie, and mentioned Hyde! I have ordered some lilies from them, they have some nice ones!

That's why Pard and Mags are doing such a fantastic job on here of sorting out the actual registered lilies. Our database here will be one of the most accurate ever seen.

Lilies or any plant the Dutch get their hands on,. IMHO are messed up terribly.

Ok, there are at least three of these suckers out there. Starburst Sensation doesn't count, it is a different name. Interesting that there is no hybridizer mentioned in the register for the tango type version. The entries for both the oriental lily and tango lily state that the cultivar epithet is unacceptable. But the tango lily entry refers back to the Hyde oriental lily. Go figure.

The red tango type lily is widely sold in gardening catalogs, especially Dutch ones.

I would ignore any photos that are in so-and-so's album. One thing I have learned as a moderator is people will order lilies (co-ops are the worst case scenario IMO), get and plant them, then when they bloom it is taken for granted they are what was ordered. My job has been to give them the bad news!!

Janet, LOL on the tango seeds LOL!

Dave, all the Sedum and Semps have been dealt with as far as duplications.
The only one that needs to come off the duplicate list are Sedum 'Variegatum'. There are three different species of sedum that carry the name 'Variegatum'. All are correct and not duplicates.

I would, but I can't actually remove anything from that list. It's kind of a "one way, read only" type report.

Is there anyway to change the fact that it is not differentiating between species? As in the three different sedum species, all with the cultivar name of 'Variegatum'?

There are actually any number of duplicate Genus cvs. on the list which are all correct. Acer 'Atropurpureum' for example. I just ignore the ones I've checked out.
