gemini_sage said:I just set my amaryllis pots outside among other potted plants. I tried one in the ground in a protected spot a few years ago as an experiment. It returned for 2 or 3 years without blooming, then stopped showing up. I love those big clumps growing in gardens, but I think it may be a pipe dream here.

I had the same experience of trying to grow them in the ground.

As far as the Roscoaea goes it's an interesting break from the more common species but it is not a great one for multiplying so far. It is not diminishing and what is there gets stronger year on year so maybe it is just slow to settle in.

These are not strictly speaking bulbs but they are all tuberous so that is close enough isn't it?

My amaryllis stay in their pots, I move them around the garden that faces east. Really hot days I keep them on the porch, the intense heat degrades the blooms fast, also the porch protects them if there is brisk or greater winds.
The stalks are a little shorter outside, and some of the colors seem more intense.

I've found the colors more intense when amaryllis flower outside too. I have an old evergreen noid that blooms at various times through the year. In winter the blooms were pastel salmon, in summer bright orange.

Glad the Glories survived their inversion!

Received 75 Caladiums as a prize in Caladium photo contest last year. Deby planted a bunch next to the north facing side of the garage last week of May and we were beginning to question their viability when to our delight and collective sigh of relief the first shoots emerged:

Jack, that multiple stem shot of your Ismene is gorgeous! I've found caladiums are often slow to get started, seems they wait for warm summer temps to really start growing.

Lilli, I love those A. roseum! How tall are they?

Thank You!

Neal, mine are 55 cm (21 inches) which is apparently a little taller than average (35-40 cm/14-16 inches).
They are in a new bed with very rich soil and full sun.

Early in the spring while picking up leaves for the garden I found these crinums in one of the leaf bags. I now have four nice clusters of them and they are going to bloom this month.

Edited to Add: Found out these were not crinums but Spider Lilies of some sort.

Larry, I've never seen a crinum with a central cup like that, could it be an ismene? It's very elegant and lovely!

I have that one as a potted plant! It smells divine, but the nectar makes a mess on the floors. No idea what it is called though.

@gemini_sage.
I am sure it could be ismene...the foliage just looked like some of my crinums and I assumed it was some sort of crinum. I'll look up ismene in the database. Thanks!
