Anything that can grow in concrete is a plant worth having. I grew a canna on my patio one year. No pot, just a canna bulb (root?) sitting on bare cement. Sucker grew to 5ft & bloomed! & there's a sunflower I see every day on my way to work. It's growing in the crevice between two of those cement barriers. Apparently just enough dirt blew in there to get it to sprout.

I'll be working on listing a few seeds here in the next week or so. I have some really nice daylily crosses this year I'll be putting in the swap along with a few other things. Here are some of the parent plants I used this year.

Hi Daniel! I haven't listed many daylily seeds yet because I'm still collecting them! I just got done bagging up a bunch just now. I haven't figured out which ones to list yet. If you have any preferences besides just being tetraploid let me know. I got a bunch of new daylilies so I have more tet crosses this year.

Joolie, I'd love to bid on the star ship lobelia (lobelia is one of my favorites perennials)!! Thank you for posting the gorgeous pics!! A very sweet friend gave me her plant that was not doing well, and it's going to need some companions :0)

Your sun flowers sound interesting as well!

Well you are going to be pretty disappointed in my seeds Daniel. I don't really have any patterns & I'm not sure if any of mine that bloomed had watermarks or halos.

I think a couple of new ones might have watermarks but they didn't bloom this year.

@vma4922 Awesome, I'll get 'em all bagged up and keep an eye on them!

Tonight I sifted out some of the seeds I collected last week, encountered a lot of bugs in various state of being alive (spiders: always alive...why?? WHY???), got a nice haul of cape fuchsia, a smattering of strawberry blonde sunflower seeds, almost ZERO joy on my maraschino cherry salvia (sigh, it drops its ripe seed heads too quickly to even bag them!!) and the last of my silene Cherry Drumsticks.

The latter makes for the photos of the night, since they are really neat looking seeds once you zoom in (with a jeweler's loupe). I'm getting some anti-static bags tomorrow so I can make a few proper packets for trading. I tried to dump out the one I had up for trade and almost all of the suckers stuck to the inside of the bag. Grumbling

Anyway... TINY SEEDS, CLOSE UP:

What color is your cape fuschia? I bought a plant - coral - for the first time this year. I'd seen a yellow one at the nursery and had an order in at bluestone perennials, and it was on sale, so I added it this spring. I am going to try and overwinter mine. Do you? Or are you in a zone that it comes back overwinter? I am also trying to save seeds and will see how that works out (have bags on them)

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been mostly absent, for various reasons. Work has been taking its toll on me lately. I come home and feel brain dead. Weekends been running to the vet and trying to get things planted now that fall is here and so much to do!

My cape fuchsia is Cherry Ripe red. Which means I'm not 100% sure it will grow from seed, so I'm going to experiment and see if it sprouts before I list it. Most cape fuchsia seed grows true, but who knows with these fancy patented hybrids. I did read that this variety stayed true "in successive generations" but it was referencing cuttings... Which is, like, what? You're not getting a "new generation" with cuttings. :P Whatever. We'll see how my experiment goes.

At any rate, this variety is really cold hardy, and since I'm in zone 8, it even stays standing - and evergreen! - the entire winter. Thanks to that and the fact it seems to be full of nectar all the time, it's one of my favorite plants in the yard. Hummingbirds LOVE it. I also got some pink version by accident, which I'm not quite as fond of but don't have the heart to evict. Even though it clashes with my orange hummingbird trumpet.

I didn't even know there was a yellow version! I wonder if butterflies can get at the nectar? If they can, I might have to consider putting one in on the 'butterfly side' of the yard.

Hope work lets up on you soon!

It's okay Elena i made a few patterned crosses this year and added about 30 new daylilies with patterns and watermarks. What cathartics are you looking for? I have way too many seeds to plant so I figured I'd put about 30 packs to the side for this swap and maybe put an ad on the classified to swap and sell a few packs to get some different genes.

Daniel I'm mostly looking for early and/or late daylily crosses. I added a lot of later blooming tets but all didn't bloom this year. I know technically 2 lates crossed together won't necessarily give you late seedlings but so far I've been lucky in that it has worked out that way for one cross I did. Out of 4 seedlings, 3 are lates and 1 hasn't ever bloomed.

I only have one early tet (Prickly Sensation) so I need some early tet seedlings to cross with it.

I already have early & late diploids but I can always use more!

What traits are you looking for in early tets? A certain form, watermarks, patterns, teeth, edged, or something else? I'll treemail you with what I have that may fit into your breeding program. I don't have many if any late tets only a few rebloomers and some dips. Seems like by mid August everything is done around my way. The only thing blooming in my garden now is Peggy Imrie but it's a dip.

I'm not really picky. I don't like the UFs mostly because stray cats tend to stash their kittens in my backyard. That form looks a lot like a cat toy and they treat them like it! Playful kittens can do a lot of damage!

I don't have any patterns except for seedlings from seeds I got in the swap. Those haven't bloomed yet. I only have a couple of toothy daylilies that are fertile.

I'm not looking to register any daylilies. I'm just trying to breed some that are adapted to my climate. I suspect some of my new additions are only going to last a year or two before they die off or I'm forced to give them away.

Daniel I just got confirmation that two of my seedlings that I crossed both have etched watermarks! I'll be sure to list that cross for you!

One of the seedlings is toothy and the other should have genes for a tendency for it (one parent was Sea Urchin).

Don't list anything you plan on planting yourself. As I said I have a bunch to play with this year so if you only have a few patterned or toothy seeds keep them for yourself. I just sent you a treemail. Thumbs up

Jim I used some of the seedlings from the seeds you shared with me in my hybridizing this year. Next year I plan on using one of them a lot more. If there is any traits you are looking for please let me know.

Daniel I may have seeds coming of several ,that are from multi color and so forth blooms ,
Myself here , not very many seeds I got 3 seeds from my Hyperion , 3 from the ruffled Apricot , and the only a lot of seeds is the Red Volunteer ,
2 of the Hyperion are growing , Most of the others already traded and the little seedlings I have will be some time ,

i really did not get much to Hybridize with this year , to humid , lot of rain during morning bloom hours , rare chances to pollinate ,
