quietyard said:Signet here in Tucson we were told to lower the amount of water we were using in the city a few years back. You know the living in the desert, conserve water speech. People did a really good job at that but because of that the water companies revenue's went down so guess what ??? Yup, they had to raise the rates thus punishing people that did what they asked! Angry

I think these idiots keep getting reelected because so few people vote any more especially in local elections. Crying

What we found locally is that not a lot of people know when these elections are taking place or what they're deciding. I don't know if there's a good place in town to post a flyer but I'm sure other gardeners and concerned citizens might join up for a city council meeting or you could form some sort of coalition! A lot of the time people just don't know what to do - clarity dissolves resistance. I love that quote lol

The weather is going bonkers here in Yorkshire,UK. Last week we had temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius all week, today we were told we have had over a month's worth of rain in just two days. 😞

That is a real shame. Sometimes I forget that people don't really seem to care anymore.

I was informed of an inert landfill being proposed about 1/2 mile from where I live *only* because a concerned citizen made copies of the proposal and circulated them among the neighborhood. About 100 people showed up to the City Council hearing (which they postponed when they saw the crowd--they probably thought "we'd forget about it and give up" but everyone showed up again) and the permit was denied. Community action at work but it's limited where I live; it just depends on the cause.

Something so serious should be taken seriously. I cry with you... Crying

Sighing!

Quietyard, they did the same thing here in Albuquerque. But here they talked alot of people into getting rid of their lawns and putting in rocks & low water plants & landscaping. Then when the water company didn't make enough money because of lower water bills they raised the rates. Now people have high water bills & ugly rock yards Angry

Colleen they banned front lawns in new homes here years ago. Do not know if it is still in effect in the county. That is why I got stuck with a rock front yard which I hate. Have put lots of potted plants there and a tree but believe me a rock yard is more work then a lawn. Weeds love rocks it seems. Whistling

Only 49 this morning, that's a wee bit chilly for the end of June! Sun was out and the air was dry so a pleasant day outside. Of course I have nearly everything done outside so spent the day inside spring cleaning 1/2 the kitchen. Rolling my eyes. I'll get the other half done tomorrow then tackle the computer corner on Friday. Scapes are really beginning to show now. Should be some bloom by the end of next week Crossing Fingers! A little bit of damage to the leaves of the daylilies from the hail yesterday. Lucky it was only blueberry sized hail and not the tater tot size others had.

Wish I could send some of this rain back your way Signet. I'm so tired of everything being wet...still can't walk down to the winter squash bed without boots on. D'Oh! it's warm enough now I could just go barefoot.... I'm sure they need weeding Sighing!

Signet,

I hope you don't have flooding.

Ginny,
Love the pictures!

I'm sitting here in jeans, long sleeved shirt and a flannel shirt. The wind is chilly and I had a cold breakfast, lol!

I hope to get out and move more iris. I am trying to get historics in one bed and have Indian Chief in another. It might be the last one to move. Then I need to start on the others.

Signet, I feel your politician pain. People here keep on re-electing the same idiots. I think they just vote for a name they recognize. For local elections, there is no campaigning on t.v. or fliers in the mail.

Linda, we had the same experience with water rates. The water and the electricity are both run by the city. The power seems to go off a good bit - at least six times a year - sometimes when it rains, sometimes for some random reason. To me that is a good bit, but maybe it isn't. Where I used to live, under a different electric company, the power would go out when it rained, too. We don't have heavy storms with lightning and strong wind. It's just rain. DH said that he would let the yard go to bare dirt before he'd put in rock. He knows how much work the weeds would be. Not too far from here is a historic adobe. The yard is hard, bare ground raked smooth and clean. The soil in the local area does not have rocks.

Ginny, I'm glad the worst of the storm missed you.

Yesterday it got up to at least 89F. They are calling for a high of 85F, which means at least 88F.

This is another daylily cross, a sibling of the one I posted last week. This one is darker, and I think, prettier.

Our temps are going in the wrong direction only 48 this morning. If this keeps up CMO's are going to be mighty popular in the garden this year. Cloudy all day with rain this afternoon, 61 out there now.

Pretty images Ginny. Happy to hear the hail and tornadoes missed you!

Chilly here too Sally, back to sweatpants and long sleeved tees. Even have a pair of my Darn Tough woolies keeping my toes warm.

Have you seen images of the raked gravel gardens? If I had to get rid of our lawn and have stone that is what I would like to do. As it is here... now...Mother Nature thinks I need a pond. Crying

I heard that.

Lovely clouds and we can't see the sunsets for all of the forest fire smoke blowing in from Utah and Arizona.

I have one question, what is this thing you call rain?

Hi everyone, well three consecutive days of torrential rain later it is finally dry---but soo cold now, I can't believe we were having a heatwave just last week. Yesterday we had to put the heating back on and get the winter jumpers and hot water bottles back out we were just so cold.

The daylilies are really confused, none of them really opening properly. What with the gall midge damage earlier and now them not opening it hasn't been a good year for the daylilies so far - thinking of swapping them out for hardy geraniums! (Kidding, though might have to reduce them to make space for diferent plants if we get the same next year as makes the garden just look rubbish! Thumbs down )

@billyporter-- luckily we are very high above sea level here and the garden slopes down and away from the house so the water goes in the other direction, if we ever get flooded up here, everyone else will have needed to develop gills! Thanks for your concern though, it was very thoughtful of you.

They are calling for a high of 86F, which means it will be 89F at my place. It is starting out cloudy, which is a good thing.
