Thanks David!
I was hoping for a white Christmas, but it's not going to happen. Happily, December slid by with hardly a whimper. Just have to get thru the next two months.

Patti,
I'm glad to see you! I've heard people say lilac buds are out and that's bad.

Hi Cindy!
Same forecast for us.

We have four bags of birdseed, but won't set it out till it does snow. Right now the birds are eating a lot of weed seed.

I do have one big feeder that I keep supplied year-round but put out suet and thistle seed only in winter. We live next to a wetlands and I try to keep birds in the yard to help with mosquitoes in the summer.

David,
I am not sure. I think it's an oak but I can't identify it. The only leaf I could enlarge looks like a spread out deeply lobed leaf. It seems to just have 3 lobes and they are topped with points.

It's not box elder or cottonwood and I don't remember acorns. DD only lived there a year and then they cut it down.

Chilly and breezy today - right around freezing. Stayed indoors baking and wrapping gifts. Not even gonna cook today - the forbidden KFC for dinner. Hey - it's getting close enough to the holidays for a splurge, right?

Susan - Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Thank you for enabling my laziness. We eat KFC maybe once a year and I always feel guilty doing it. I didn't want to brave the crowds at restaurants tonight and I'm not a huge fan of pizza so DH went to pick up dinner. Yep - grease it is.

Hi Pepper!
~ madly! Glad you came over!!
I need to finish wrapping today. I think all DD's gifts arrived so I can get them wrapped ready to drop off Thursday.
Then I need to start baking.

ROTFL. Did none of us eat our own cooking?

We had Christmas dinner at SIL's yesterday and it was so nice. One brother didn't come, but they never do. One brother died. So, out of 7 kids, 5 of us had a great time!
She had turkey with all the trimmings. She also made everyone a gift bag with her canned BBQ sauce, hot cocoa mix with ground up chocolate chips and sent us home with leftovers.

Have a beautiful day!

Gosh - must have been something in the air yesterday about not cooking (much). Alas, it means I will have to cook tonight (out of sheer guilt) since we went to office party on Friday night.
The worst part of midwestern winters has been predominant the past couple of weeks - cloudy days with minimal sunshine. I don't mind the cold as much as the cloudy days.

We ate at home today. lol. Cooked up a brisket.

It's been windy as heck today with gusts into the high 40s. But the temp is around 55 so it's warmer than normal. It really needs to be in the 20s and the ground covered in snow. lol

Golly, pepper - you're too ambitious for me in the cooking department. DH does most of the meats in his smoker and I let him take charge - ever since I suggested broiling steaks in the oven. Smiling I am actually cooking healthy meatloaf and sauteed zucchini for dinner. Paying penance for my splurges over the past couple of days.
Nice gift bags, Sally. Heck! That means another day without cooking, right?
Susan - what's KD?
Windy and warm here as well. Felt like spring. Even the sun made a brief appearance today but rain tonight and tomorrow. Looks like we're going to be warm even past Christmas. Just hope that if the temps take a brutal dive that it snows first.

Actually I didn't cook it. That was my mom cooking it and it took 2 days to do it. lol. I've been baking cookies instead. Still have 2 batches to cook up tomorrow, and a total of 4 batches to still make up and cook after that. Doing chocolate cookies and butterscotch cookies. lol
