I think I'm ready for a "pretty" snow since we haven't had much yet this winter. Mostly ice and a lot of that's melted.
I did get some fresh kale from my little cold frame today so I'm happy.

I wouldn't be able to grow any lettuce this time of year. My neighbor's dogs would eat it. Hilarious! . I throw leftover veggie scraps out the backdoor and the german shepherd comes running over and eats it. Squirrels can't even get to it. Hilarious!

I look to the snow to help insulate and protect perennials, etc from the nasty cold that's coming after the snow.
David - lucky you! I did leave some broccoli raab in the ground but it sure doesn't look too happy - kind of wilty.
Most of the outdoor lights are down finally. DH is trying to beat the cold weather coming. He did get the lights off of the eaves last night but still has the bushes to do.

Cindy,
I'm ready. We already got two weeks worth of groceries so we don't have to get back out except for milk.
That is a nice haul of water!

Susan,
I sure don't blame you. It's hard to stay strong.

Pepper,
We're just plain gloomy and foggy. I can see across the road so we're not even fogged in. The rain just picked up too.
Laughing over your scavenger dog!

I have two tiny cabbage plants that still look pretty good.

I'm ready for snow globe snow. We just had ice too :o(

It is gloomy, foggy and wet this afternoon. DH got the rest of the outdoor lights off the bushes and got all of the lights put away. And we put the burlap up around my Hinoki cypress for protection against any wind and frigid temps. It suffered a lot winter before last and I'm trying to prevent any more die-back. Got my order in to Peaceful Valley today - I'm going to try potatoes in Smart Pots and am excited about that. Got free shipping on most of my order by signing up for their weekly newsletter and that amounted to about $14. Good deal.
I did do grocery shopping and a Costco run on Weds so I'm ready to be snowed in. Making chicken tortilla soup tomorrow. Out to a local diner tonight - Friday routine - no cooking.

Cindy,
We noticed our Farm and Fleet was selling burlap. I had never seen it there before.

David,
That was me yesterday. Not too foggy. No real pea soup yet.

Out of a 20% chance of snow this morning, it snowed! Not the big puffy flakes, but it laid down a layer on the driveway. The temps have already dropped from 32° to 27°. At least it stopped snowing.

The temps are supposed to drop here during the day and it's supposed to start snowing late afternoon. The weather people say that this storm may move further east before really ramping up but we're only one county away from up to 8". Still gray and misty with no wind (yet).
As a rule, I haven't really used burlap for winter protection of shrubs until long-established shrubs like the cypress and holly suffered drastically in the winter of 2014. Since we had a lot of snow at the time, anything under the snow was protected. Hydrangeas that bloom on new wood were ok but those that bloom on old wood didn't flower the following year.

I wrap my Crape Myrtle with burlap above the leaves I use for the first 4 feet. I build a structure out of chicken wire and posts. Fill with leaves. Remaining CM above that gets the burlap - wrapped around ~ 10 times. The Burlap they now sell at the Big Box stores is junk.
