Ginny,
Laughing! I almost sent a Dyersville link, but it's all farm equipment. It was a neat place to visit tho.

Thankfully, Dave is in no serious danger. Chances are we'll never have to bail him out.

Isn't the Field of Dreams close by? Isn't there a huge church there? I cannot remember if I went to Decorah or Dyersville for Syttende Mai. Gene

Gorgeous day! Went out for breakfast and then went for a drive to the Portage (IN) lakefront and river walk. A reclaimed steel mill site that's in the process of remediation. Not many more opportunities to visit the Lake Michigan shore before it gets cold. Sad to see erosion effects on the beach though. The force of those waves coming down Lake Michigan from the north and eroding sandy beaches is hard to imagine until seen. There's a really neat documentary that came out in the spring - "Shifting Sands" - that outlines the ecological history and unique topography of the dunes, detailing the total mess that industry made of the land (because Chicago didn't want any dirty industry in their city) back in the early 1900's and the gradual remediation.
Ginny - DH has peach, cherry, oak, pecan, mesquite, apple, hickory - all that I can think of at the moment.
Has anyone tried making Dutch baby or German pancakes? I was enticed by them when DS ordered one in a restaurant a few months back. Bought a new small cast iron skillet so I could try my hand at it. Any tips or comments are welcomed!

Finished the bulbs today and now going to clean and put tools away properly - that should make Sally happy nodding

Cindy sounds like a lovely day Hurray! Love the different woods for smoking favors. We have mini Dutch pancakes called poffertjes that I have a cast iron pan for. It has little dips for the little pancakes. They puff up and you drizzle with butter and powdered sugar when they're done. My favorite at our tulip time celebration. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Anyone have any idea what kind of egg this might have been? I know it's a bad picture and I did mangle it. I found it while digging holes for some bulbs. It was buried in a raised bed area. It did seem to have a hard shell, not a soft leathery type

Edited to add the picture I forgot. Long day today. Thanks Ginny

Sunny. NE wind around 5 mph.

Ginny,
Laughing! It really is a neat place. They have the neatest diarama encased in plexiglass.

Gene,
Yes, we went to the Field of Dreams, and the Church is magnificent!!

http://xavierbasilica.com/gall...

Cindy,
That's an impressive assortment of smoker wood. Peach, cherry, apple and oak would be the most available to gather here. Are grapevines a possibility?

Ginny,
Clean tools in their place, smiling!
Gorgeous grasses! My neighbor has some, but I dug all mine out. They are a BEAR to remove!

Dave,
Not a clue on your egg. Did you pick it up and turn it over?
Oh. My. Gosh! Monster bullb!!
Gorgeous orange lily!

Jmorth,
Love your lily collection!
Wow wow wow on you favorite!!

Ut oh,
I'm feeling feverish. I have a need to smell fragrant lilies!

I orderd Trumpet Lilies from Jung. White, orange and yellow. But, I got an extra that I think is Anastasia. Love it! They are all together because when I untubbed them, I had a mess I wasn't prepared to tackle. It went in a big hole, as was.

Good morning. It was sunny and gorgeous all day yesterday, in the 70s. Currently 52F and partly cloudy, wind will be coming out of the NW and the high might only get to 58F. Tonight's temp forecasted to be between 38F and 40F.
Sally - not sure about grape vine for smoking. DH says bark has to be removed from the wood or it will yield a bitter flavor. Removing bark from wood is more work than DH wants to to.
Dave - are you sure your "egg" is an egg and not a fungus?
Ginny - gorgeous pics! I have a Dutch baby recipe that I clipped out of the newspaper a few years ago but have never tried. What's neat is that the writer gave recipes for 3 different sizes. Got my new 8" cast iron skillet yesterday so I'll be trying the recipe this coming weekend. I've made a souffle once and it turned out ok so hope my experiment will go well.
Re: lilies - somewhat envious of the garden space you all must have to become "addicts". Smiling I have only a few day lilies after doing some editing as the foliage takes up a lot of space in a small bed. The wind channels between houses here and tall things have to be staked.

Good morning. Currently 43F and cloudy, heading to 54F. Might get some rain later tonight and there's a 100% chance of rain tomorrow. Got down to 40F under tree cover. Have car appointment today so that will take 2 hours out of my day. I'm going to try the early voting thing tomorrow as my regular place gets a little crowded with multiple lines down a narrow hallway. I expect the turnout will be significant. Dahlias are still blooming along with mums. Relatively new to Dahlias which I start from seed. One of my selections is at least 4 ft tall if it was standing straight. As it is, they're lying all over other plants, even with plant supports, but still cranking out flowers. No frost in this week's forecast so debating about pulling them or letting them continue on.
