Partly sunny. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Gene,
Very good news for California. Some is bettter than none.

Jim,
Frostunia's would be nice, lol!

Jeanne,
No iris bores? You'll know when the leaves look striped and watery. The tiny caterpillar will be huge by the time it reaches the tuber. I like bugs, worms excetra, but the iris borer is the ugliest most disgusting thing!
Your tubers look healthy enough. How long have you had the beds of iris? Maybe you don't have them yet.

Cindy,
I used to have the tall dahlias and I loved them. Storing the huge tubers was another story since I don't have a basement.

Good morning. Currently 64F and hazy, heading to 75F today. Slept with open windows and it will be a great day to be outdoors. May get some rain showers this evening though and the wind is supposed to switch coming out of the north so big cool down.
Sally - I did try saving dahlia tubers a couple of years back - my first experience. But it didn't turn out well. I just start mine from seed every year. Only tubers I save over winter are canna and ornamental sweet potatoes.

Jim - sorry about the grumpies.
I made a Dutch baby for breakfast with first-timer's success. Yummy with powdered sugar and a sprinkle of lemon juice. Speaking of...I have a couple of lemons that are starting to ripen on my two trees. Thinking of making lemon curd with them - that way I can spread it on anything.

Wonderful day out today. Though i didn't get a chance to work in the garden like I wanted to. Had a nice lily bulb sent to me from a friend on Thursday, then a few more showed up today.

Mostly cloudy. North wind 5 to 10 mph.

Cindy,
Seriously? They grow that quickly from seed?
Lemons? How lucky are you!

Jim,
I'm sorry everyone was grumpy. I hope today is a better day.
Smiling, at least there is a pattern to the grumpies.

Dave,
NICE bunch of lily bulbs!

Pepper,
Awesome that your Grandpa is so young! My Dad is 87 and still gets around.
Laughing! I got goosebumps just thinking about ice cream.

Ginny,
Cute imaginative pumpkins, ADORABLE bunch of grandkids!
So many blooms! Mine are all gone except for couple of reblooming small iris.

We ran to DD's yesterday to see the boys little mini bikes they just got. They have a big back yard to ride them in and DD mowed them a track. Oldest grandson is reserved. Second grandson is more of a take the bumps as they come. Pictures are still in the camera.

Good morning. Currently 55F with some wind and sun breaking through clouds that gave us light rain overnight. Heading to only 57F today and 41F tonight. Silly electronic devices - clocks - automatically changing for daylight savings time this morning - the old schedule. Woke up at what I thought was 6:30 and thought it was awfully light outside. Turns out it was really 7:30.
Jim - the Dutch baby is only as sweet as what you put on it since no sugar goes into the batter. And a little lemon curd goes a long way. My family is very keen on lemon anything and it really brightens up winter days.
Ginny - nice pics! What a treat at this time of year.
Sally - I start Dahlia seeds early indoors. They're not ready to start blooming until June (depending on weather). More reliable than "iffy" tuber storage over winter for me.

We all wanted a long fall. Looks like we're getting it. Hurray! Grass seed has sprouted where the trees were removed and hoping those freezing temps hold off a little longer.
Sally - those dahlias are huge! Are those from over-wintered tubers?
Jim - did you start your baby dogwood from seed? Nice! Was looking forward to the fruits on my Kousa dogwood but I think they all fell off when we had that warm, dry spell back in the late spring.
