Still waiting for the sun to come up and I can see what I left out to freeze. Some schools have delayed start. Our district has taken a snow day.

I went out at 11 PM to top a Brugmansia that I couldn't get inside the hoop. The leaves and stems were already frozen.

Cold here too - but I've been out taking pictures! I'm sure folks up north would roll their eyes and shake their heads as in, "You call THAT a SNOW??????" But for central Texas, it was a good one: 3 inches and it stuck! I was out at 11:30 p.m. stringing the extension cord to the greenhouse heater because the weatherman updated the overnight low forecast to 28 degrees. This caught everyone by surprise! News saying 88,000 people without power in San Antonio, and schools have announced delayed openings. Roads are fine - which is good because I think SA only owns one snowplow that they bought in 1932. Hilarious!

Sun's out now and we're headed towards 50 degrees so this won't last long. But it was fun.

We froze, didn't stick under the trees at least. I don't see sun until tomorro and a 2nd freezing hours tonite. Sun is out? Makes for a colder day. Hit 34* @ 8am, roof is dripping now. I have my dormancy now, and hopefully everything that likes cooler weather is safe.

Hoophouse off the gameroom (should have made it longer).
Debating whether it's worth it to add the door this year.

Both are stuffed, barely room for the heaters to go in the big one. DD and I worked yesterday until the sleet and snow drove us inside.
(I posted the Bromeliads in the fountain on the Bromeliad thread. Just didn't have time to place them. We were so cold!).

Great pictures one and all. If you can identify any of the vegetation under the snow, I think that you can add them to the plants database under 'winter interest'.

Did any of y'all have Frostweed that froze and did it's thing? Not sure how cold it has to be for that to happen.

It snowed during the night about 2 inches on the ground, very light and fluffy.
My neighbors' 4 yr old granddaughter and I played in the snow...it was her first time. We had a snowball fight - well, not really a fight, maybe a toss. She was delighted by it.

Down the street are several lumps of unfinished snowmen; otherwise snow is gone. It got up to 44 degrees.

My poor neighbors. It started snowing in earnest this morning around 5:30a....big, wet, fat flakes. None stuck to the roadway but they did stick to the ground and cars and grills and plants. Uncut cane fields looked like a strange landscape...frozen and bent.

The 2 teenage brothers across the street made a fairly impressive snowman which ended up in a snowball fight - whooping and hollering. they were the only neighbors who were 'glad' we brought the snow with us. Cold and dry as a bone at the farm in NW Illinois.

All in all we got 3 inches in our area - and it still hasn't melted away...tonight ought to be wild on the expressway as the sloppy snow freezes. Stay safe.

Frostweed does its thang when the freeze is fast enough and deep enough to split the stalk. Love the pictures. Northern neighbors only like snow to play in- they dont like the shoveling. Of course, instead of pushin mowers down the block to earn money, the kids carry their snow shovels and look for houses that need walks cleaned.
I used roasting a hen and vegs as an excuse to stay inside all day. Pets didnt want out nearly as often!

Kat is right - Northerners only like snow to play in (but gardeners like the deep freeze in winter to kill off pests) - we sure don't miss having to get up at o dark:thirty to start the tractor and cars and then spend an hour plowing/shoveling. I certainly won't miss that. There is a certain beauty to Northern snow though - as long as you're warm and toasty inside.

Snow is still on the ground here in 9a - unbelievable! But the sun is out and I expect temps will quickly melt what's left. Bread and soup here today.

After our "snow storm" that snarled traffic and cancelled school yesterday, it'll be 73 Monday. Thumbs up

Thanks, @porkpal, she is kinda cute.
It's in the 50's, a beautiful sunny day, so poor snow lady is now a puddle - 😞
It was wonderful to have snow - 9 years since it snowed in SE Texas.

Got most of the tropicals inside the garage; the blue ginger and toad lily continue blooming.

It is always fun to see things blooming this time of year. I agree, those are beautiful bloomers.

Has anyone checked their plants to see what survived the freeze?

The freeze/snow finally made me pull the last of the peppers, okra and basil.

I just planted two types of small romaine lettuce in that half of the raised bed. Lettuce grows so well in the winter here.

I also learned something this year. I started the lettuce seed twice and got terrible germination. When it turned cold they began to sprout. I later read that one can force lettuce to germinate by refrigerating the seed.

Never to late to learn and always amazed when I watch nature. Whistling

Hope everyone has a good week ahead.

I had some freeze damage on some of my plants I brought in before it was supposedly freezing. That atmospheric compression event must have come down harder and faster than anyone predicted. I was shocked to see those freeze damage spots yesterday when bringing a few things back out. It was mainly on a few bromeliads. I will try and get some pics later on today. I have always gone by a forecast of thirty six degrees as a marker to pay close attention to the temp. I think I might need to revise that number in consideration to that unexpected snow.

It was 41 here this morning and all the vehicles had thick frost/ice on their windshields (?)
