Lily that is more saturated with push-up pop color in person.
Spotted this gorgeous southern Magnolia bloom at the courthouse in Monroeville, AL (known for its connection to To Kill a Mockingbird.) It was at eye level. Usually those blooms are 50 feet up in the air.

LorettaNJ said: Tiffany, is that Tiny Double You? That is one of my favorite tiny lilies. The scarlet beetles like them too.
Yes. : ) And rutroh! Enough blooms open now to call it a show.
Salvia farinacea is back from last year! YAY! 2 little spires aren't much but way better than the otherwise nothing that would be right there due to the brown-pants plant prices I saw last week.

I'm glad you enjoy it. : ) Any plant can be taken out by pests. If it's pretty today and the cost is comparable to a bouquet, it's worthwhile, IMVHO. If beetles get it, something else will enjoy the pot. This is the 3rd year for them, a gift in this case. There are no guarantees. The uncertainty is what makes the successes so fun for me. I propose various garden ideas to mother nature and they are either accepted or vetoed, sometimes both, eventually.

Three falls ago at Lowes we got these two Maples off the markdown rack for less than eighteen dollars. Markdown from eighty dollars. They have come a long way. I heard that the Cicadas love Maples among others. I will try to find some netting to protect them among others.
Mike, I think the netting is a good idea. When we had a big cicada emergence around 15 years ago, I lost a couple young Japanese maples completely and several others were severely disfigured by the cicadas (they bore into the underside of small branches, causing the branches to curve downward). Most of my trees are bigger now, so I'm less concerned about them, but I have a bunch of trees in pots which I plan to move into my garage when the cicadas arrive. I haven't seen one yet, but they're surely on their way!
Where would I find netting to protect my itty bitty Japanese maple? It's only about 3' tall. Do I go all the way to the ground to protect the whole tree or just the foliage?
When all is said and done, thereโs more said than done.
