I visited a friends nursery yesterday and she gave me these. She said it's a happy little flower that I need in my garden๐Ÿ˜Š

Lovely, Mike.
Several weeks ahead of us.

There's apparently been several additional discoveries of double bloodroot in the wild (viz. beyond Dayton, Ohio, 1917).
https://iowagarden.blogspot.co...

I found dividing our double bloodroot (when it had gone dormant) a bit surprising: below our large clump was one single large (fibrous-covered?) rhizomatous mass/blob.

Betony. Clearly I'm no match for it so sticking with taller plants in the areas it claims. It mostly disappears when it gets hot.

Wow, Rose. Your garden looks great!
Mike, I'm jealous of your big beautiful spread of double bloodroot. I used to have a similar (maybe even bigger!) patch, but one year it simply didn't return. I don't know what happened to it, I presumed eaten by voles. I have replanted a couple here and there, but still pint-sized.
Charlie, once you found that huge bloodroot mass, what did you do with it? Did you divide it? Successfully?

Scott, I'm not that old (even if I sometimes feel it)!
Interesting about you having had double bloodroot in your garden and losing it. I've read of it disappearing in several other gardens/locations. And being sterile, no seeds are produced for their normal bloodroot distribution by ants.

I certainly found division easy; just chopping it up, into small blocks, with a spade.

Beautiful spring blooms, Tiff and Rose!

Checked on my bloodroot. I don't see the one in the ground yet but this one I bought last year at a plant sale overwintered in a pot in a shed and is blooming! I would have missed it if you didn't mention it.

I think I will try to divide the one in the ground. It never increased much. I would like to have a larger patch.

The bloodroot I have in the ground has been there maybe 20 years. It stays about the same size.
