Bev, after sowing those Tidy Tips, I read they're frost sensitive, so it surprised me that they germinated so early. I'll keep a close eye on them.

Thanks,Teri. I have several like that too, with just a seedling or two. Some things germinate erratically over an extended period. I hope that is the case with these Gaura 'Whirling Butterflies'

I hear ya on the frost sensitive thing, Neal...Our last frost date is supposedly April 15...tax day...So close I can almost taste it, lol!! I think I'll put the Tidy Tips out this weekend and hover until they germinate;) I've already planted some hardier things out into the gardens..poppies, bat. buttons, and calendula are out. Alyssum and dianthus will be next. I know that I'll never get it all out if I don't start now...Whew!

Oh, wow, I can't even get my garden beds ready. They're still covered with volunteer larkspur. I started to put down cardboard to smother them, ran out of cardboard. It was a beautiful day here but of course I was at work. I'm only home on rainy days. Tomorrow I'm off but we're supposed to get an inch of rain tomorrow.

Oh, volunteer larkspur. That sounds wonderful. I haven't had very good luck with them here. Maybe this year?
Neal those are exciting pictures, all those babies waiting to becoming blooming plants. Thumbs up

Lol! Karen...I meant to be home early today to work outside a bit, but got a call and ended up spending most of the rest of sunlight driving across town and back...Ohhh! And you know every traffic light was RED! Hope no one around was lip reading. It was in the low 70's and lightly breezy. Perfect gardening weather...Still steaming over it.

I've never grown Tidy Tips, just liked the pictures. Do tell, how did it perform for you, and what was unimpressive about it?

I'm really curious about the Dimorphotheca, African Daisies I've sown, another I hadn't even heard of. They look a lot like Osteospermum, which I've also seen called African Daisy, but they appear to only occur in shades of orange and yellow (that I've seen). I've got some wintersown, and saved some seed back in case that doesn't work.

not sure if the lack of sun and cold wet summer was the cause... but they are soooo tiny.. and they were kind of wimpy... they ended up being slugified I think.. but they did not last long.. I will see if I can find a photo.. I know the seed catalogs show these photos and the blooms look huge and are really tiny... but those were like a 1/2 inch.. tiny tiny things
