We had about a week or so, maybe 10 days, of hot weather. But for the past week, our highs have been only in the 70s, one day only into the 60s. Our average hi for this date is 83°.

I gave up on my maters, hopefully next year I can either have a raised bed for them or something along the lines of an earth box. I tossed them in a clear bin filled with old dirt and they are now growing in there Rolling my eyes.

Mine are beat from the winds, being on the lake here. But they are coming along ok. It will all depend on the weather. I actually have 4 little Sungold tomatoes ripening.

When i was out weeding yesterday... i found 2 or 3 volunteers also.

It's raining again, [i need to check the radar still ] so i have no idea what I'm going to get done today, outside that is.

It's not looking good at all for outside things today- stormy again. We had a storm earlier, only lasted about 15 minutes, but incredible lightning! Now it's just rain, but on radar it looks like we'll be having a major storm again very soon- within minutes. I hear a lot of thunder. Sheesh, will it never end???

Arlene, in one of our amazing rain/windstorms, one of my tomato seedlings lost ALL it leaves. Now, they've all regrown, so have faith.

with all this rain.... when you guys are working out in the yard -- what sort of "bug spray" do you use?

I'm getting eaten alive!!

after being a human buffet last night... today i wore a long sleaved shirt, jeans, heavy socks and gym shoes... i used Deep Woods OFF

I counted 26 bites... 7 right on my face!

what works best?

All last week only 1/10" every day for rain. Yesterdeay I got up to see we had 7/10's. This morning it was an inch! I went to bed early and slept through the entire storm. Tornados touching down all over and I slept through it. None near us though.

Terese & Steven . . . Eeek! I am so allergic to bug bites that would put me in the hospital. If I go out there, I fog the garden first. Can't think what the stuff is called.

We have one little volunteer from last year. Big Grin

I put down some all natural spray where the dogs are to keep the skeeters away.. and granules in the front where the dogs don't go.. let you guys know how it works.. but I use this chemical free spray on myself... it really works.. I even spray it in my hair so I don't get bit on my hairline.. I am also allergic to the bites.. I say the 2 strongest smells in there are the rosemary & citronella.. kind of pleasant but strong

Seems very strange- I woke up this morning to no rain, or fog. It's actually pretty bright, and only a 50% chance of rain today. I have to go check on my Mom though, and do some things for her, so probably won't have much time outside, if any at all.

So strange that y'all keep getting so much rain. We had a fairly wet spring, but quickly went to hot and dry. I was doing the happy dance when we had a storm on Sunday night. I've been having to water the veggie garden. I won't complain though.

The dh put down a cardboard base and mulched over that. It appears to be keeping things from drying out so quickly. That, and the fact that I planted the tomatoes pretty deep seems to be working. I have green tomatoes on nearly all the plants thank goodness. Last year was pretty much a bust so maybe I'm due a good one this time.

I hear you about the mosquitoes...I have actually had good luck with those little fan things that you wear. Kind of expensive to use every day. I use them when we end up on those woody treks the dh likes to take ever so often.

Another day, another storm. It's Armageddon out there again- heavy rain, thunder, lightning, wind, dark as night... I left my Mother's place sooner than I had planned. When I saw the change in the skies, I knew it was going to be another freaking wild storm. If you look at this page on the weather channel, it looks like these storms are going to continue through Wednesday and Thursday, too.

Usually I'm whining about heat and drought by now, this year is too much water. We've had another 0.9" of rain in my rain gauge today so far, more on the way.

Last year my DGD was here and sprayed stuff on herself; it melted her flip flops. So then she stuck with the Bert's Bees brand of anti bug stuff and she said it worked for her. Another 8/10's of rain here today but tomorrow and Fri will be sunnyt and dry out. So all is good.

I feel your pain, Karen. We missed today's storms, but yesterday I had 6" of rain in my rain gauge (might have been more, but it was overflowing). We had hail, wind and massive rains. Many flooded streets; a bridge just outside of where I work (on a major thoroughfare) was washed out from the rushing floodwaters.

My tomatoes are doing OK, but not much else is too happy. Well, except the weeds. My herbs are all looking waterlogged.

This evening, we had a small squall pass through, and we ended up losing power for about an hour and a half.

Six inches in a day? Incredible.

It has actually been a dry day here so far. No doubt due to the fact that I was working. There's rain around us on radar though so we might still get it.

My husband just finished cutting grass. It was about 8" deep.
