I'll bet you'll have lots more tomato sprouts when the weather warms up. It has to get warm eventually!

wow, have i been mia from this thread....

i got home a few days ago, and i have 2, only 2 seedlings. one has it's second set of leaves.

i found one of the 2ltr bottles -- i forgot to drill holes... whoops - so i guess i was lucky to get 1 to germinate.

I'm thinking to two are... Mountain Princess ?? and a Beef Steak. Hope 2 plants will be enough for this year... but then, i'm gone almost all year anyways... DH goes back and forth enough to bring some up though... I dont have sun in Wisc, so i cant grow them there.

Well, if you want more, you can always buy a plant or two.

We've finally had a couple of warm days, and 2 dry days, hopefully some of this wintersown stuff will start looking better. But besides being small, everything is yellow. Bleh!

so Karen, it finally stopped raining??

I went thru all my WS containers... i had just over 70, a few I didnt number. .. i have 27 that have not germianted yet. I think it's due to all the rain and COLD.

one of the weather pages said we hit 90 today. Ugggg, didnt think it was that warm, but the 'breeze' out of the southeast was HOT. it's 83 in my house.... i;'m melting, but not totally complaining....

I am goign to run to wallyworld to pick up some humus and other garden 'stuff'. maybe i'll grab a mater or two.

It was 81°but cloudy when I got home from work today. But it has been mostly cloudy, or rainy and cooler than normal. 2 dry days in a row now, that's very good/

I tried to transplant a few things in the yard yesterday. My clay soil is mucky. Still really too wet and I shouldn't be working it.

We've had almost a week of sun and warmth now(finally!) but still only one mater sprout. That one sprout is looking quite healthy though!

I bought 2 huge "Bonnie" plants. One is a Patio tomato and the other was an Heirloom -- can't recall the name... possibly Better Boy.... Hmmm, or Early Girl. i know i looked at both of them.

have to say... i'm dreading going outside. thermometer is already reading 84 in the shade.... i flipped the AIR on earlier... just too dang hot too early in the year.

OH... so i go to wallyworld... what the heck, no garden dept!! that was a bust. Go on over to HD.... no humus, what the heck. I ended up with Mushroom compost and pine bark mulch. they didnt have the aged pine bark i was looking for.... but at least i came home with something. Grrrrrrrrrr. the gal was saying.. "Oh we just ran out yesterday" -- i was like "yea, right" ... anyhooo -- i'll get teh maters in the ground and a bunch more seedlings... hopefully it will cloud up ... when i checked my forecast.. it said cloudy and chance of Tstorms this afternoon they couldnt be more wrong... it's blazing blue skies.... guess the guy didnt look out the window before he posted that....

Ugggg -- listen to me whine......

Just a few hot days and my maters have grown noticeably.

I worked today, just got home. It's sunny and humid here, too. 84° with a "feels like" temp of 88. I put my air conditioner on last night. The house was too hot to sleep.

All my indoor stuff is dry- gotta go water now.

I'm trying to get the indoor stuff hardened off, its supposed to be humid on Friday. Our "spring" weather lasted about 1 week. Went to get some miracle grow soil at the GC outside my work and they don't even sell it. Go figure, they only sell store brand. Ugh. I will never buy any store brands, after one summer I got PlantSmart soil from WM and it was like trying to plant in concrete.

Steven, have you ever tried the professional mixes? I get ProMix or Fafard or Metro mix from local nurseries. I ask for what they use for their own plants. I like all of those.

I have a ProMix I use for all my seeds, cuttings ect. Think it's PGX, in the black bag. Really works well for me, but when it comes to containers I've had great results with the MG potting mix. If you buy a mix like the Fafard do you add slow release fert at planting?

Yes, I do use the slow release ferts in my summer pots, but not for seeds. I have good results.

But I don't remember having bad results with Miracle Grow either.

I think the Fafard is less dollars, so maybe I'll give it a shot. Thanks for suggesting it! I'm pretty sure HD usually has it. I find the Miracle Grow is very expensive as potting soils go.

We had a couple of unseasonable 90 degree days. Last night the temps dropped and we had a terrific cold rain storm.

My seedlings are stuck on one set of true leaves. Nada. I may just skip gardening this year. I'm losing interest.

I think I'm getting there too, Arlene. My problem is volunteers, millions of them, that I can't get rid of. I think the only thing I can do is maybe hoe and clear a small spot, maybe 3' x 3', Preen, then apply a think layer of mulch. Then move to another spot and repeat. Talk about time consuming. And the weather is hot and humid.

I wish I had a friend with a big strong 18 year old kid that I could hire for a few hours here and there to help me. My husband would, but he's never home.

I had the 2 seedlings. one was 'farther' along than the other... 2 sets of leaves where the smaller one had only 1 set... the next day -- they were both about the same size.

but still only 2 seedlings out of 8 seeds. that's OK though.

but have to say... tough year for seedlings -- or seeds in general with the goofy weather and way too much rain.

My 1 seedling is making its first set of true leaves. It's like a cool rainforest outside right now, foggy, misty and WET.

Karen, have you every tried corn gluten for weed/volunteer contol? The gluten is supposed to coat the seed preventing germination. Theres alot of info if you google it.
