We were down to 26F last night. Things didn't look very happy this morning and we're supposed to get down to 30 tonight. The, thank heavens, it is supposed to warm up a bit.

A pink single. All my peonies survived the cool down now if we just do not have thunderstorms when they bloom.

I have one Itoh Hybrid "Singing in the Rain" that didn't survive too well. I think one of my Tree Peonies took a hit too..

That is a really bad way to begin the Spring season. The bad thing about peonies is one only gets one shot at the satisfaction of watching them bloom. An early freeze or a storm with high winds and heavy rain sure takes the fun out of gardening. Reminds me of a phrase from a John Prine song:

Have you ever noticed when you're feeling really good
There's always a pigeon that'll come s--- on your hood

Tonight and tomorrow there are tornadoes forcasted for Texas to Minnesota so we will probably be hit with the edges of the storms.

Yeah, but what are you going to do? That is why I have tons and tons of different peonies. I'm bound to get a bloom from someone yet this spring. Smiling

How did you fare with the storms last night? I heard there was hail in the area, but I don't think I had any problems with it. At least, not last night.

We missed any high winds & storms last night. May reach us tonight. Peonies are just in the stage of being ready to open so a rain will not cause too many problems.

These are some pictures of a peony called "Silver Dawn Mix", they either bloom in shades of pale pink, peach, pale yellow and cream. They have crepe paper-like petals. These are all Silver Dawn Mix from Klehms Song Sparrow. Great peonies. Will send some pictures of the yellows that are just starting to bloom.

A lot of my peonies are getting ready to pop. The freezing night played havoc with my fernies in bud and burnt the blooms. I have several tree peonies blooming at present time but below is the only one I'm really happy with.

Yagumo

Then I have Shimanishiki. She is notorious for not being stable and she certainly wasn't this year. Here is what she is supposed to kind of look like, altho, I think this bloom is quite faded. I'm not sure if it is because of the freezes we had when they were getting ready to pop or if it just needs some fertilizer.

Here is what her other bloom looked like.

And last we have Hoki. It's bloom seems quite a bit lighter than what it's supposed to be.

Oh well, hopefully the rest of my peonies will be just grand. Smiling

Looks as though you made it through the cold and bad weather ok. We dodged the bullet last night since just East of here they had 50-60 mph winds and golfball sized hail.

I really like the blossoms of tree peonies but just can't work up the enthusiasm to begin a new "compulsive project".

I added 2 more tree peonies to the 5 that I have, and I will stop with that. I have two ITOH now, but with them being still so expensive, I will probably not add to that either. Last year, I went on a big splurge and bought 17 more herbaceous ones. I am officially out of room - I tallied up my numbers and got 47 HP (plants, not varieties since I have multiples of some varieties), 7 TP and 2 ITOH - more than enough for one species. I'll just have to enjoy Oldgardenrose's and others who have fernies vicariously. Rolling on the floor laughing

Lavon and Hot Chocolate are 2010 purchases so they are still in the juvenile stage.
