Tabby,
Are you sure your stone circle wasn't done by aliens. May be a flying Semp hovering out in your yard?
Kidding, but I do like the idea. I have some nice river stones that would look great doing the same thing in my yard. Thanks for the idea.

I've never been entirely sure about my husband's side of the family.

Semp crop circles or labyrinth could be an interesting garden idea.

More wonderful photos Tabby. I love the rock design. Are you going to plant in it?

I can't plant there - it's mulch over weed barrier. My spouse had fun with rocks there because we don't have to weed or mow it.

But I do like the idea of mixing rock and semps in some artistic way.

Critter, just set them on top of the weed barrier - they won't care and will grow in whatever you have on top of the barrier.

Has anyone had the experience of ordering the same semp from 2 different suppliers and having the plant look quite different? (Both suppliers are in the same state.)

Actually, I have a couple of semps from different traders that appear to be different plants. It does happen. Also have had the situation when it appears to be a different plant that I have, but after growing it for a season or two, it becomes clear it was just local growing conditions at the original location that caused the plant to appear so different. That's why keeping good information is so important.

I've had this happen more than once. For instance, I have a S. Pink Pearl from one supplier that is the genuine thing and one that is definitely not.

One supplier I plan to stay away from in the future.

Contact them and see if they will make it right. That way, you will find out, maybe, if they know what they are doing (can they tell that they've got the wrong label on their stock after you point it out?) and do they have the integrity to fix it.

There was a highly rated vendor on DG's top rated vendor's list that ignored me when I pointed out to them that they had shipped me mislabeled material. I won't ever deal with them again.

I've actually received 2 different plants (labelled the same) from the same vendor in the same order. Clearly not the same plants after several years.

Thanks Twitcher. I actually did that and was offered a plant that looked more like what I expected it to look like. They were very good about it.

Chris, did you contact them? That is very disturbing.

These vendors aren't aware that we, here at ATP, have Lynn's fabulous Sempervivum database, which shows the photos of varieties throughout the year.

I have had some say, "Well, it will change its' appearance."

But now we can look on the database for how the plant looks in various months. Hurray!

A big difference is how much shade or sun they get. In the shade they are greener, in the sun they are more colorful. It's fun to move them around from year to year to find the best spot or to see them change, so even if you have pics of them throughout the season, keep in mind that a different location may result in big changes in appearance.

My Pacific Blazing Star did not look like most of the pics on succulents.jp. Last year, however, they changed appearance and did match pics there. Then at the end of the growing season last year, they were again looking like they had the previous year.
