Janice, yes - 4 seems to be the common number of buds on the Lc Irene Finneys. That's a very pretty picture of the Bllra Tropic Tom 'Kinky'.

Those cattleya, do they all require cooler weather? I grew up in Santa Barbara and my mother had cattleyas growing all around the yard in the ground. Are some of them epiphytes and do some not require cold weather in the winter?

Thanks, Ursula. You know, SBOE replacement they sent me appears to be the same NOID variety they sent the first time. Can't believe it! Guess I am done with SBOE.....

Not even the invoice or a buried tag gives you a name of the Orchid?
We are talking about Santa Barbara Orchids, right?

Some stuff coming into bloom here. Iwanagaara Appleblossom is starting to open 3 spikes this year. Oh and btw the RHS calls this one now a Jackfowlieara Appleblossom. They are insane!!
Nomenclature is a wonderful thing, it helps people speaking the same language, but I find this one defeating the purpose.

More of Asctm miniatum
The speckled pattern on the leaves is normal for this plant. I grow it in full sun year around.

Cattleyas grow in Central and South America and like it warm, humid, and bright indirect light. Some of us grow them in coconut fiber in wire pots. I have a group of compact ones mounted on wood or nothing at all, too.

The tag says the name of the orchid I ordered, but it is open now and it is the same as the first incorrect one they sent.
It does not match the photo on their website of the orchid I ordered. They said the first they sent was not the correct one and when they sent this one, it had not yet opened and they thought it was the correct one.

Thanks, Kathy. Sorry Jonna, I didn't mean to ignore you. And yes, Cattleyas are Epiphytes.

And last for now the small Dendrobium trantuanii, which I had picked up in bud at the SEPOS. I am glad I did!

Janice, I see. What was it again supposed to be? You probably mentioned it before.....

Another pic of the Den. trantuanii. The glossy bloom measures about 2 inches across.

This name change thing is driving me nuts. If only they would stop now!
My 2 Jackfowlieara Apple Blossoms look sad this year so of course I bought another with the clonal name 'Fantastic' in bud. It will be fun to compare them, Ursula.

That Den. trantuanii is wonderful!! How big is that blossom?

It's the Jack Fowl thingie which made them feel sad!! Blinking Actually this particular name is so darn silly that I might even remember it.
You had one of the more yellow clones, if I remember correctly?

The bloom is 2 inches across on a teensy plant.(from Cal-Orchids) I still have to look up to see what the future plant will look like, size etc. I have another small plant just starting to bud. ( From J&L)

And yes it will be nice to compare the Iwanagaaras. Slowly pronounced in defiance....( having fun here)

Rolling on the floor laughing I'll hafta ask the Apple Blossoms whether their new name made them sad. I have a white and a golden. Here they are together in April 2008. So you can see why I have to have a healthy one at all times!

Ursula, just looked up Den. trantuanii on Orchid Species. com. It's on my wish list now. Cal Orchids huh? So far, I've good luck with Dens, but most of them get too big. This one is a mini.

Rene, can you tell Jonna about how you are growing that catt? Weird that only one of the two came through twice! Are you hitting the finished button twice?
