Hi All, I'm back with Kathy's Cym. Purple Temple in full spike. Kathy, you forgot to tell me how beautifully fragrant it is. Like roses in Spring. It's enjoying a prime spot in the breakfast room. Two others are up to something as well...the NOID and Chen's Ruby 'Gold Tiger'. I'm pretty sure the NOID's two growths are bitty spikes but can't tell on Chen's Ruby whether those nubs are spikes or new pbs yet. Lovely Melody is just hanging out looking lovely.

Hi Ursula, et al, I'm just dandy. Thanks for asking. I spent some time looking at everyone's bloomers and gosh ya'll have some wonderful orchids. I've been able to resume growing more touchy specimens with the greenhut in place which puts me back to where I was with a GH in the eighties. In fact, though my collection is smaller in numbers and plant size, it is IMO even better.Thumb of 2010-12-14/Maypoplaurel/feb7e4

Hi Laurel!!! I sure sent those orchids to the right lady!!! So happy to see your successes. Thanks for posting pics. It's always a treat to hear from you, my dear! Please show us more of your new collection. I'm very curious to see those rare ones.

I just bought a new computer online. I've been going through major withdrawal despite the old computer being set up. I've been a very busy girl with shopping and trying to figure out how to download pics and not push my DBF off of his computer all the time. Whistling It is so frigid here too with an inch of snow this AM and more tomorrow but midday today there was sun for the orchids. Hurray!

Hang in there Jim! Funny to think of 40 as cold now that we are in the teens. All relative.

Bree, please tell us what it's like to swelter so I remember! That laelia has some of the nicest roots I've seen and your paphs are so happy. You and Janice are the paph queens!

Janice, love the pics of Sunset Glory and Copper Queen. And that is a great pattern of spots on Paph. Spotglen x moquettianum!

Off to bed and up at 5:30 the next 2 days. Night night!

Janice- can't wait to see that Paph fully open, whats the size of the flower? I mostly grow cool growing paphs so i don't have to heat my greenhouse but love those big, round complex hybrids the best.
Here you go Kathy..Thumb of 2010-12-15/bree/2c9e9a in my greenhouse at 6am this morning.

Here is Dendrobium Gillieston Gold 'Nataly', smelling wonderful of fruity bubblegum with a touch of mint.

This spike formed on an old bare growth!

And my mounted (regular) Dendrobium moniliforme surprised me with a couple of blooms on a keiki. Those canes got fairly tall last Summer and I see a lot of buds.

Ursula, my Den. moniliforme is dropping a lot of leaves now. Do yours ever do that?
Love Dendrobium Gilliston Gold 'Nataly'! Lovey dubby Is it Australian?
Ursula is the Jewel Orchid I gave you open yet? Mine has one flower open.

Yes Kathy, they sure do for me. The plant has lots of bare canes and my others do too.
I just corrected the spelling on the Gillieston Gold - and yes, it is Australian. You can treat it pretty much like a Den kingianum, except it is a little easier to keep than a Den king.
My Jewel Orchid is just starting too. Looks nice!! Lovey dubby
Your Minerva is just great!! Thumbs up I love it!

I bought Minerva years ago from SBOE. It came in winter and they forgot a heat pack so they sent me another. They both survived the cold and I gave the extra to David W. Wish I had given it to you so I could see it thrive at your gh! Oh well!

Great show here. I've been very busy uncovering plants and taking them out of the garage. Tomorrow the orchids go back to the lanai and I get to see if anything has bloomed or died. I was so tightly packed in there that I couldn't get around to see anything. The mango and lychee huts worked well, not even any damage. Things left uncovered like begonias, banana trees and small bedding plants got fried. Most will recover.

Other news, I had a contractor come out to see what could be done about turning the lanai into a big greenhouse. Another one comes tomorrow and a third next week. I'll keep you all posted on the other thread if it all works out.

JIm, I'm so glad your plants have survived all the wind and brutal cold..you've got to be relieved.
I don't know if the company that did our porch to sunroom conversion has a florida division. It has
been a wonderful addition to our house. It's a simple track on the floor and ceiling that panels slide
into. The panels are about 4 feet wide and each 4ft section has 4 movable sections that go up or
down, so you can open it at the top and the bottom, the panels also come completely out if you want,
for the summer possibly. The material is a crystal clear soft plastic material that has a life time warranty .
The company we used is called The Sunroom Store, but looking on the web it looks like lots of similar
companies. I've got a portable heater out there and it keeps the room between 50 and 70.
