Around here things are progressing -
I brought the Brassavola Little Stars this evening into the living room, wow - what a scent, this lady "puts out"! Smiling

Bc Princess Teresa 'Princess Michiko' opened the first spike
Thumb of 2010-12-18/Ursula/263ccb

Bc Binosa 'Tetraploid' opened another spike

Incredibly the Bulbophyllum echinolabium produced another smelly bloom on one of those spikes started last Summer.
Thumb of 2010-12-18/Ursula/17ae5b

Bulbo Jersey ( echinolabium x lobbii) started blooming out of season
Thumb of 2010-12-18/Ursula/ad48ef Thumb of 2010-12-18/Ursula/b543fa

And an early-bird single bloom on the Lc (John Mossman x Irving Dietsche 'Inky') x Lc Don DeMichaels
The scent is awesome, imagine a bouquet of Carnations with some Vanilla overtones.
The color is actually a bit darker and more velvety.

You know, you would expect the Bulbo Jersey to be a stinker too, but no - nothing.

I picked up the Lc ..Inky x etc a couple of years ago from Silva Orchids, the dark blooms and the scent really called out to me!

Good show, Ursula. I love both of the catts and isn't Little Stars something? It is one of those orchids everyone should have.

I spent most of yesterday putting the orchids back out on the lanai. I did take the time to photograph a few and give them a once over. The lack of light and water in the garage has given some of them a yellowish tint but I think they will recover nicely. It is a rainy day and I'm thinking that may help.

Here is Vanda Princess Blue X Kasem's Delight on its way to the lanai.

Nice pictures Jim, looks like everyone survived the exile in the garage!
How did you store the giant vandas with those long roots? Hooks in the ceiling?
I can't imagine how complicated that must have been!

Bc Maikai 'Spotted Star'. This first pic shows how the color has changed as the blooms age. The oldest flowers are light colored ones to the left.

The "Rattlesnake" orchid Pholidota imbricata has been spiking for months and finally woke up in the garage. It is really a weird looking thing.

Lindsey, yes, it is a huge problem and as my collection grows, it gets worse. There are no basements in Florida so I have to use the garage and the small attic above it for storage. I have pegboard lining the walls to hold all of the garden tools. I hang the vandas from the hooks that are near the ceiling. Worse is the 10 foot long epi and the huge, heavy Grammatophylum scriptum. That is why I am looking to change the lanai into a greenhouse.

Jim, beautiful!! I am glad the garage didn't hurt them a bit, they look great. And yes, everyone should have a Chia Lin, the second spike on mine is still going strong, I am always amazed how long the gorgeous blooms last.
The Pholidota looks intriguing, have to google that one.
