Glad to see al the blooms you folks have posted. My orchids haven't bloomed for me as they usually do partly for lack of TLC on my part..and partly from an invasion of mealy bugs.I've never had them before but I bought what I thought was a bargain at Walmart. It was no bargain!!The bugs managed to spread in no time to all my plants and I've been fighting them ever since with Neem oil.I'd like to use a systemic insecticide but hesitate to use it in the house.
I haven't been well so I haven't been shopping so when I saw Sobetys had a new shipment of orchids in I went down with my airmiles money in my hot little hand. They loooked lovely with lots of side shoots.I bought 3 and DD bought me one. When I got them home the buds on al the side shoots were missing.I called Sobeys and they are replace them when they get another shipment. They also said I didn't have to return the faulty plants.I was pleased with their service.Good old maritime business .That's my tale of woe. Here are the phals.Thumb of 2011-01-05/agedgardener/dddc69Joy

joy-but wont these new ones just get mealy bugs to. Goodluck on your eradication of them, i have problems with scale not mealybug. Just as innoying. I havent bought anymore plants until i can break the cycle of that scale, toothbrush and diluted metho scrubbings and repotting will do it. Keeping the ants away which spread the scale is my main worry.
All i got for new flowering is this single flowerThumb of 2011-01-05/bree/eca067 tagged a C.Portia but its not is it?
Pouring down here at the moment says it will all week, its still 20-25 deg cel with 100% humidity though.

yes this is nice but its a very tall plant and takes up alot of room in my greenhouse, i have it hanging on a long hook at the back so i don't hit my head on the pot. hehe!
Thumb of 2011-01-06/bree/26b2f5
not much of a smell, a little bit.
I got for xmas bottom shelves for my greenhouse and a door, no one appreciates it but me and my partner who made(welded) it. Its made from galvanised square pipe with hard mesh. I'll get a pic when rain stops. He doesn't go to shops but he made them and hid them from me..hehe! I love it, just what ive been nagging for.

Finally I get to look at this thread today, you all were busy!!!

Joy, about the Mealies - a well aimed spray of water will clean up the majority of them already without resorting to the strong guns. And daily vigilance!
Nice new Phals!

Kathy, your Laelia lundii is way ahead of mine which is in the ca 1 inch spike stage.
I saw some of that floofy drop today too.....
Paph Nike's Sunny Delight is a cutie pie! Lovey dubby

I moved the Laelia autumnalis from the greenhouse entrance to the other side of the greenhouse, no more bumping into it here, as Laelia anceps starts opening.

Joy, the blooms that you do have left on the new plants look very nice. Good to hear that the store will replace the failing plants. They do receive a lot of abuse while they are on display at these stores.

Great looking plants Kathy, and especially good show from the green Cym, also Ctna. Maui Maid x Epc. Morea displays very well, nice one.

Lindsey, Blc Rustic Spots changes very little over its display period, certainly nothing nearly as dramatic as some of its close relatives we have seen here lately.

Ken, I bought two mini phals last spring...they bloomed for months. Now they are putting on new leaves but no sign of re-spiking.

Kathy, your display does on and on!

Nice Catt hybrid Bree.

Kathy, the vast majority of my paphs came from paramount including these: paph. Wossner Armenijack

I love all three paphs for different reasons, Todd! I sure wish I could get the paph thing down. I now water them as much as I can under and around the leaves so they are growing better. I have so many that have never flowered. Thanks for the odontoglossum show, Ken, since I have mostly killed mine off. Great markings!!

Laelia ludii ended up in full south sun this year so it has been happier. Maybe I'll use a light over the laelias in the cold next year.
