Jim, I have a new appreciation for certain Dens from certain places. However, the more unusual the plants and places the less likely you will find correct information on how to grow them. Throw Dockrillias in here as well. I almost killed mine off reading advice.

Ursula, the greenhut and therefore the Den. anceps is on a south side but my east and west walls are partially recessed between house walls. It will do it's thing in it's own time. I have an Angraecum sesquipedale that is slow to spike and was thinking maybe more heat, more light, etc. but an experienced Vandaceous grower tells me there are the early January/February bloomers and also the late ones that bloom way into March.

Here's a shout out to Todd and Ken...thanks for commenting and as always your orchids look amazing! I hope you are looking at mine. :)

I for one can't stop looking Laurel!! Always great to see what you have going on in GA!
I have a mounted Dockrillia schoeninum which is very long and drapes itself over lots of others. I have it in medium light and water daily in my warm room. Does that seem right to you?
My first bud and only bud for that matter on my "coconut" orchid, Maxillaria tenuifolia, has opened this PM. No scent tonight.

Cym Nut 'Red Beauty' has more buds open.

Mormolyca ringens opened a bud too. The leaves and stems are longer than 6" but the flowers are minis.

Laurel, I am always happy to see what's blooming in your Greenhut ( I like that description) !! And - when they are good and ready, they will bloom!

Kathy, cute Mormolyca ringens! My Max tenuifolia hasn't said peep yet this year.

Todd, that variation of Vuylstekeara Cambria is a beauty.

Great show Ursula, love the white and pastel colors of Cattleya trianae var amoena, the rich yellow of Laelia mixta and the blue of Vanda coerulescens.

Lovely red floof Bree.

Laurel, the canes of Dendrobium auriculatum are very slender. How long are they? Nutmeg is good.

Kathy, Cymbidium Nut is aptly named as is surely is a 'Red Beauty'. I am sure your little coconut will develop.

If this is Max. tenuifolia season, then I guess mine will not be flowering this year...oh well, another year!

Love those floofy catts! and Ursul's minis are always so intriguing....and I won't even mention Cymbidiums!

Ken, the Den. auriculatum has slender 8" canes that become pendant. So graceful. Nutmeg is very good.

Kathy, don't think it's Cym. sinense because it doesn't have stripes. Maybe though. Did you have one?

Ursula, maybe it should be called the greenhovel. The 'chids are poor but happy and don't realize their meager circumstances. Big Grin

Nice Den., Todd. Sorry about you Max. but maybe next year? My Max. sanguinea just finished with twenty flowers.

Todd that pic is outstanding! Can you post it on the photography forum and tell us how you got it so sharp and the distance you were and the lens. A tripod? etc. I'm not happy with my photos lately. This camera doesn't do well without sun which is scarce.

This is a good year for my Maxes so far. Up till now I have been disappointed with inconsistent blooming. I just spotted lots more buds on the tenuifolia. This is by far my most healthy looking plant. When I first got it, I peeled all the dried stuff off and it hated that. Then it kept falling out of pots. So the last time I repotted it, I set it low in the pot and left it alone. Now with all the new growth, it just glows. I am won over to healthy growth. Rather than getting them to flower on unhealthy growth which is true of lots of them chez moi. My New Year's Resolution is to get healthy foliage. Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!

Laurel there are many different sinenses and sometimes the striping doesn't show except in bright light. Here is one I murdered (or maybe sent to you) Cym. sinense Yinbian and another that just finished blooming, Cym. Pacific Ocean (the last 2 pics).

Todd, that White Rabbit is one of the most beautiful photos that I've ever seen...nice one! I tip my hat to you.
Lc. Tokyo Magic 'Moonbeam' x B. digbyana 'Mrs. Chase' is opening today, at the moment the
flowers remind me of the old fashioned nuns hats. I hope that as the flower matures it will flatten out?

Cymbidium Nut 'Red Beauty' is a sinense hybrid which makes sense (sinense Rolling on the floor laughing ) since it is blooming away with scent. The flowers are quite large and the spike is a few feet tall. Must be the Cym. Red Beauty influence.

Some in the warm room.
The two Cattleya intermedias. The Catt. internedia x Blc. Morning Glory will have at least 3 flowers. The second bud is starting to open. This is a good sized flower-4" across I think.

I can totally relate, Lindsey!! About 4 years ago I realized that they are my very fav orchids, besides laelias, neo x vandas, sophs., dendrochilums, phrags, etc! Well, I tried to restrict myself to small plants. At first I bought 2 minis. Wrong. They were huge. So I started collecting Chinese which are hard to bloom. Now I am finally getting bloom on some of those but still only a small percentage. My Golden Elf didn't bloom this year at all, but I'm still making headway. Anyway, that's why I'm so excited!! Thumbs up

Solar Flare is outstanding Ursula! kathy you are killing me with your Cymbidiums.

Lindsey, is your Catt fragrant? I woudl expect with R. digbyana so prevalent.

The Beallara Peggy Ruth Carpenter I got from Ken (Ironwood) is flowering...3 spikes this year.

Don't let the cyms get you down, Todd. I'm hoping that if you try the stuff I do, they will bloom for you next year. You could always get Laurel's advice, too. She raises them from the dead!
