Paph. Susan Booth, on May 4th and then May 15th. It has grown over 16 inches in 11 days, so is increasing at a rate of 1.5 inches a day. An Amaryllis spike from a 5 inch bulb cannot keep up with the Paph.

Got this two orchids which were thriving before and then suddenly seemed to decline, not doing anything, so I tried to repot and attempt semi-hydro method.

I find the Antelope dendrobium hated the semi-hydro or maybe I did something wrong, so I just maintained it still in the hydroton rocks and some styro peanuts, but no water under it, and it is now making a comeback.
Thumb of 2011-05-16/tarev/065a9c

This Grammatophyllum Scriptum "Hihimanu", really had a grand decline, from 3 pseudobulbs with leaves, now I am down to this one wrinkled one. But somehow it is responding to the semi-hydro method, and is now showing some sign of growth.
Thumb of 2011-05-16/tarev/a95da6

It somehow shows a good fighting spirit for these orchids. I hope they really do make it!!

goodluck tarev. I don't kow about semi hydro but i wouldn't have a orchid in a pot with no drainage/airholes. To scared of rot.
Wow ken really can't wait for susan booth. How many buds are on it? 3? So its a multifloral that will open the buds at the same time.

Thanks bree! Actually it does have drainage, there are a couple of holes about an inch or so from the bottom of the container, which serves as drip line, so water will drain out and stays below the drip line. I am still trying to learn more about semi-hydro, a fresh newbie for this method. Maybe it was my timing that was off...oh well, live and learn Smiling

Bree, it has 4 buds and the lower bud just started to crack open today so you could see some tails folded up inside. I didn't know there were Paphs that had blooms develop that fast, any of the other Paphs I have had bloom took several weeks to develop the bloom after it was first noticed. It makes it even more exciting because it is such a large plant. Hurray!

New growth is a good sign Tarev, lets hope the regain their former vigor. Hurray!

Aww, many thanks for the vote of confidence Ken and Kathy! Look at that double K! Isn't it amusing, sometimes the wait for the blooms or signs of active growth from our dear orchids is like a lottery Hilarious!

Waiting and hoping is really a test of sheer patience!!!

Thunia is testing my patience here, the seller said not to water till the new growth is a good 2 inches and its only half an inch now....the pot is so dry because it hasn't been watered since October, I can't wait to plunge it and let that orchid drink all the water it desires!

I was watering my orchids earlier and saw some new developments in the Dendrobium Nobile:

Thumb of 2011-05-17/tarev/f7c85e

I also saw some roots growing at the base of a new growth midway part of the cane. So does that mean, the new growth is a keiki? I have seen keiki form at the very top and at the very base of the cane, but not mid part of cane...lots to learn I guess with this orchid
Thumb of 2011-05-17/tarev/9a1335

This is how my Den Nobile looked like when it was in bloom last Feb 2011
Thumb of 2011-05-17/tarev/ebe05b

And this is the singular flower it also produced with its keiki last Sep 2010.

My ultimate anticipation is to grow the Ghost Orchid.. I had been pondering and researching these gems for some time now and finally made the choice to go for it. You would think it shouldn't be too difficult, as they grow right down the street from me. All I have to do is recreate a swamp.. Right ??
Ok, so here it is. No wind or breeze, plenty of moisture and dappled sun light. Just like the swamps.. I hope...

If I get this right and it blooms.... I'm gonna have an Ghost Orchid party and everyone is invited.
